Alexandre de Castro Alves. SummaryOSGi in Depth shows Java developers how to develop to the OSGi Service Platform Enterprise specification, an emerging Java-based technology for developing modular enterprise applications. Because of its unique architecture, you can modify, add, remove, start, and stop parts of an application without taking down the whole system. You get a lot of benefit by mastering the basics, but OSGi really pays off when you dig in a little deeper.

OSGi in Depth presents practical techniques for implementing OSGiĀ . Written for Java developers who already know the basics, OSGi in Depth.

OSGi in Depth presents practical techniques for implementing OSGi, including enterprise services such as management, configuration, event handling, and software component models. You'll learn to custom-tailor the OSGi platform, which is itself modular, and discover how to pick and choose services to create domain-specific frameworks for your business.

OSGi in Depth picks up where OSGi in Action leaves off, covering important enterprise OSGi services, such as management, configuration, event handling, and software component models. Along the way, the reader learns software engineering best practices that result in systems with flexibility, extensibility, and maintainability. This book also describes how a developer can custom-tailor the OSGi platform, which is in itself modular, by picking and choosing the appropriate services to create domain-specific application frameworks.

Welcome Alexandre de Castro Alves. Hi, Thanks for the warm welcome by everyone. Yes, the book (OSGi in Depth) does talk about how to layer an OSGi framework on top of other frameworks (. In my mind, the reason for doing this (layering) is two-fold

Comments to eBook OSGi in Depth
Dusar
A very readable guide to using OSGi, useful for a variety of purposes. While many users might be unaware of their use of OSGi (i.e. users of Eclipse, Application Servers, etc.), those who read this book will gain insights into the inner workings of the tools they depend on. As a bonus, readers get easy-to-read overviews of some vital Enterprise topics like distributed transactions and JNDI. Easy to understand and wide in scope.
Trash Obsession
The author carefully explains the nuts and bolts of interesting and useful topics, such as how transactions work, when you need to use it, and what's the difference of using it with OSGi and without it.

I really felt like I was learning the reason why I needed to use a feature, rather than just learning technology for technology's sake, as it is the case of most technical books.

Very well written as well.
