I used these books to pass both the 70-271 and 70-272 exams, and have always been pleased with the Exam Cram products. There are several reasons for my five star rating: 1) the books cover the exam objectives in a concise manner. 2) Each chapter has ten review questions, and there are two additional practice exams in each book. 3) The CD contains a digital PDF version of the book. This allows you to keep copies of the book at home, work, on your laptop or thumb drive, so that you always have it with you. 4) The CD also contains MeasureUp exam questions.

I personally found the criticisms in the one-star reviews to be unfounded. While the books were written before Service Pack 2 came out, I did not encounter any questions on the exam in which this would have mattered. In addition, you should never rely on a single book as your sole source of information - you should be consulting the Microsoft web site and performing extensive Google searches to supplement your knowledge. Experience with the product is much more important than reading the book. Also, the questions are very important because they force you to apply your knowledge and truthfully assess your readiness for the exams. If you're scoring 90+ percent on all of the provided practice questions and have experience with XP, you shouldn't have a problem passing the exams. Good luck!

I just finished my 2nd try on the MCDST 70-271 exam and got the same score as my first exam. This book has loads of information, but none of it is geared towards today's mcdst questions. Your better off finding a book or webservice that has questions more related to the test. The questions in this book are very tricky and very detailed. The questions on both exams I've had, are much more vague and harder to answer. I'm throwing these books away and looking for something that works..

I thought military training manuals were dry and boring, this thing put me to sleep in 5 minutes. Another Micro$oft ploy to get more money out of people, especially people who want that certification. This is 1 of the many thousands of certifications that you can get from Micro$oft.

Microsoft's release of the MCDST Certification has you taking 2 exams, 70-271 and 70-272.What you need is something to use as a final study tool and this set is just the right answer. What you have here is a fairly complete breakdown of the exam objective condensed for easy reading.

No technical manual is usually fun to read since the material is technical, however these 2 books are easy to follow and the reading level is set for the experience technician. Understand that manual(s) is a scaled down finer points set of text, and you will need other resources in order to pass the exam.

The 70-271 book was a little more informative and I found it had information that lapped over to the other exam. As with other EC2 manuals, there is the Cram sheet in front and the cd in the back. This set uses the Measure UP test engine, which could use a few updates and more questions as well as a way to up[date on the web.

Fixing the test engine is a minor draw back and this book should help in the final prep. Overall well put together and researched

This Exam Cram 2 books were useful, too. Beside that, on the contrary to Microsoft heavy hardcover books, they are little and soft and if needed you can easily take them with you on the workplace as a reference book.

Only one regret: the test CDs aren't so good.

Their tests are only 50 questions long (and the questions are always the same) and the 272 CD is full of errors (a lot of answers are counted as wrong even if you answered right).

I bought this book based on the other customer reviews, unfortunately I was very disappointed. This book was written/published before SP2 came out, which makes a BIG difference in the material covered on the exam. Dont get me wrong, this does have plenty of good material, but this is NOT a good sole study guide, this is more of a backup. My advice, save the $40 and go with a different set of books.
