There is some medical jargon, but it is still clear enough for parents and I would recommend it to anyone who has concerns that mental health may be a contributing factor to their aspie's well being.

Mental health aspects of autism and Asperger syndrome. Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2005. M Ghaziuddin, L Tsai, N Ghaziuddin. Asperger syndrome: Tests of right hemisphere functioning and interhemispheric communication. HL Gunter, M Ghaziuddin, HD Ellis. Brief report: violence in Asperger syndrome, a critique. Asperger syndrome: Associated psychiatric and medical conditions.

It is a very comprehensive book and certainly the most informative I have found on the subject so far. I would strongly recommend this book. Author: The Sheffield Autistic Society Newsletter.

The first book to address the increasingly urgent need for information about psychiatric problems in people with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), Mental Health Aspects of Autism and Asperger Syndrome systematically explains the emotional and psychological difficulties that are often encountered with ASDs. The author, an experienced psychiatrist specializing in autism, describes each of the conditions that are commonly seen in autistic children and adults, including schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and tic disorders, and gives sound guidance on their early detection and treatment. Easy to use and authoritative, this book is an essential tool for use by both family and professionals.

I am a specialist who works with students all across the spectrum in school environments. I borrowed this book from a colleague who hadn't read it yet. I've been looking for a book that would help me differentiate between diagnoses (Asperger's vs ADHD, etc.) as well as a book that would give me greater understanding of the mental health components that many students on the spectrum experience. This book provided both pieces which was a bonus to find this information in one book. Highly recommend this book and I'm buying a copy to have on hand for myself.
