I found examples in book "Head First Design Patterns" very easy to understand yet enough to understand the patterns.

I need some interesting ideas for creational design patterns. I recently took a class which had a design patterns aspect to it (in a half-semester course, we spent maybe 3-4 weeks going over design patterns). Many of our practicals, and our coursework consisted of using JHotDraw to explore their use of patterns (as well as how to develop a framework). I found examples in book "Head First Design Patterns" very easy to understand yet enough to understand the patterns.

Many teachers are looking for more student-centered approaches but lack good models of practice, formal knowledge of learning theory, or the time to engage with learning-centered lesson design.Based on his extensive research and practical workshops with teachers,Terry O'Connor provides an approach to college teaching that uses instructional design without recourse to extensive lesson-development procedures. Recognizing that practicing teachers do not have time for such methods, he offers a pattern-design approach that utilizes templates to resolve lesson design decisions. This book introduces the reader to a selection of lesson templates, based on the patterns of effective learning interactions. By incorporating these patterns into his/her own lessons, the teacher captures the potential of good learning theory without having to engage in an extensive course design process. This book will help readers understand the complexities of learning as they master the pattern approach. They will learn to diagnose the learning needs of their lesson and apply proven solutions to their teaching situations. Advice on making their lessons plans work in the classroom is provided, along with suggestions for conducting action projects to continually improve their lessons. The book concludes with detailed descriptions of twenty patterns that provide a repertoire for most higher education settings. This book presents both the fundamental principles and the practical strategies that teachers need to make their own lessons more learning-oriented. It will appeal to new and experienced teachers, and to adjuncts, as well as to directors of teaching and learning centers and of preparing future faculty programs.
