Many educators and experts believe that formative assessment is an integral part of effective teaching. In contrast with most summative assessments, which are deliberately set apart from instruction, formative assessments are integrated into the teaching and learning process.

It doesn't help for anyone trying to learn strategies to comply with Marzano based assessments and evaluations. Most of the information is generic- save your money on this one. The Formative assessment from the NSTA was better

I bought this book on Kindle because I want to grade using standards but I still have to report a single grade. The book gave some interesting ideas about how to grade individual assignments (perhaps too time consuming) but not much practical help in how to move from standard strands to single grade other than averaging. I didn't get any of my questions answered. Perhaps I just missed how my situation was presented in the book.

This book offers excellent information for the basis of Standards Based Grading. There is information that will guide a teacher through the process of SBG and a how to approach setting up a testing/assessment program with students. It offers different grading scales and rubrics. It should be a part of your foundational materials to support your grading system and assessment process.

I purchased this because I am a teacher on our grading committee at the high school where I work. We are trying to develop new policies on grading, and have each subject level team develop common grading policies. I though this book would give me additional insight on assessments as well. I like the book.

Our district is adopting the Marzano evaluation model. We received training ... but this book provides in-depth information about formative assessment using the Marzano goals/scales system. This book is a good companion to Designing & Teaching Learning Goals & Objectives. Highly recommended if you are new to Marzano.

Very good overview of how to create classroom learning standards, either from scratch or from state standards. Good intro to the idea of SBG and the way it drives assessment and motivates lesson structure. Very nice discussion of ways to report student progress to families, including methods to convert results to more traditional letter or percentage grading systems.

Fantastic. Really helped me use a clear scale and give constant feedback to my students. Also helped me Grade in a way that helps me measure student learning
Great resource since I am on a committee to institute standard based grading at my school.
