MARK BEN FORD
COMEBACK by Peter Corris
This is the second novel by Corris that I have read and it reads just as we'll and smoothly as did my first, namely THE DUNBAR CASE. This title, also featuring rugged Australian PI Cliff Hardy also happens to be an ex-cop with plenty of friends also has plenty of enemies, noticeably on both sides of the law. In COMEBACK, Hardy is hired to track down and "remove" an apparent stalker from the life of an up and coming young Australian television personality. Less than a week into the job, said client is found dead in his car on his way to a quick round of golf and before we can say "whodunit" our man Cliff is the number one suspect in the eyes of the law. Well of course WE all know he did not do it but one death leads to a funeral which leads to a grieving father which leads to another investigation which leads to another murder which leads to ... You get the idea.

Anyway COMEBACK is a tightly written explosive detective story featuring our man Cliff, some thugs, some more thugs, some coppers and some more thugs. Characters come and go and come again and we never are sure who they really are, but that can be attributed to the skill and talent of the writer who as we all know by now is world class. This book is around 100 pages longer than DUNBAR CASE and the story line is a little bit more complex. Consequently it is a better read overall. So in summary COMEBACK is another world class writing performance from Peter Coriss. Can't wait for the next one!

Having lived in Australia (Sydney) for five years of my life I found this story very well told and knew where he was most of the time.
An intriguing story - very readable. I have been to the library and taken out a few more in the series.
This was still the best of the three I have now read.
Akirg
Peter Corris rates with the best. Mike Connely, James Lee Burke and Ken Bruen and he has lots of books. The man is an amazing wiriter and what a great character he has created!
Bandiri
Cliff Hardy, formerly disgraced, has had his PI licence restored and has decided to set up in business again. One of his first cases is that of Bobby Forrest, a young actor, who believes he is being stalked and threatened by a woman he met recently on a dating website. Cliff investigates and finds there is more in Bobby's past then he confided. When Bobby is found dead, Cliff starts to investigate in earnest as he feels he has let Bobby down by not protecting him. The action is fast moving and the twists and turns keep you guessing to the end.
Fhois
He always writes well both in style and in plot.
Nekora
A great read with some Oz localities to make you feel at home for a change. Well worth investing the time.
Very Old Chap
I expected the old roustabout to be a bit tired but Cliff Hardy is as sharp a character as ever, without some of the rough edges of his youth.
Once again Cliff Hardy gets himself into more trouble by not leaving well enough alone. Easy reading, with some familiar landmarks. Entertaing read.
