My first introduction to Ms Ashley Fontainne was at her Goodreads author page. Immediately, I left her a message. Being someone who has wanted to make a trailer for my own book, I felt compelled to let Ms Fontainne know that I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

Poisonous relationships, sexual crimes covered up in the name of business, desperate misery and desperate measures all come together in Ashley Fontainne’s Accountable to None, first in her Eviscerating the Snake series. And there are certainly snakes in the paradise of this business world.

Strong language in the opening scene warns readers what to expect. Analytical descriptions of character motivations and occasional over-the-top descriptions—“a textbook narcisist/sociopath that any psychologist would salivate over at the thought of…”—together with long backstories, offer a bumpy ride, sometimes fast and sometimes languorously slow. There’s much to relish in the playing out of revenge, and much to despise in the carefully described inner thoughts of the main antagonist.

The first part of the story is complete by the end of this novel, so readers could stop here or go on to read more as they choose. The novel’s short, but the reading’s slow, with touches of faith, ashes of pain, and thunderous splashes of fury at the world’s treatment of women in business.

Disclosure: I found it on a deal and I offer my honest review.

This book was fantastic! I'd never read a Ashley Fontainne novel before, so I didn't know exactly what to expect. At first I was a little iffy about it as it appeared it wouldn't be a romance (and that is my main source of reading) and each chapter was from the perspective of a different character. I didn't think I would like that each chapter was focused on a different character, but it worked really well for the book and I ended up loving it in the end! With each chapter the story progresses, the reader gets to learn about so many more characters than just a central one or two. After Audra's story in the prologue I wondered for quite a while if/when she was going to pop back up. I figured she had to (or else why would she be in the prologue vowing to get revenge?) but I didn't know when it was going to happen. The fact that she was going to was confirmed when I read the chapter in which Gabrielle quits to then get a phone call from Audra. Knowing she wanted revenge also didn't prepare me for the brilliance of said revenge when all eventually came to light. Audra is far more intelligent than anyone she worked with ever gave her credit for. She not only got justice for herself, but solved a major problem facing all of the partners at the firm. Considering the major intentional oversights of all of the partners (barring Carl) as to what happened to her five years before, I believe she found justice in a way that humbled them, but in no way destroyed them or was at all unjustified. Carl's state and words after signing the paperwork at the end of the meeting were great to hear both as Audra and as a reader. It is hard to know that a woman went through any experience like hers on that dreadful night, but another thing entirely to know that four other individuals, partners in the company, deliberately ignored what had clearly happened that night (not to mention the one that perpetrated it). It's truly deplorable. This book was well-written with dynamic, intriguing characters. Getting a little glimpse into each of their lives was fantastic. Fontainne manages to weave the story seamlessly, despite the multitude of essentially characters that we learn about over the course of the book. The book includes a small amount of romance at the very end (more a budding romance) following a truly touching scene of Gina's memorial service (seriously, I was near tears at the overwhelming emotions out in that field; sadness, generosity, forgiveness, rebirth, relief, awakening, and so many more). While I realize this is the first book in a series, I believe it could easily be read as a standalone. The book has a HEA ending (barring the epilogue) and doesn't really end in a cliffhanger. It is is the epilogue that will really make you curious as to what happens next. It is clear that something is going to happen in the presumably near future (and not a good something). It has me on the edge of my seat and itching to read the second book in the series. Overall, I'm excited to see how the story progresses and how the characters evolve as the series progresses. Again, I thought this book was fantastic and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

Trigger warnings for abuse, rape and murder

Brutal and compelling. This story is easy to follow but difficult to read at times due to emotional content. It ends with the possibility of revenge, not exactly a cliffhanger, but not a complete, clean end.

The storyline is realistic, no matter what economic scale one is on. The culture of actively participating in or ignoring evil acts is finally brought to light. Punishment and justice are not equal which is also realistic.

Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking dialogue. Especially intriguing is what Audra endured for justice.

No desire to re-read this story. I do enjoy this author and look forward to other works by her.

I got this book a long time ago and finally got around to reading it----in to parts. I had started it then ran out of battery power. When it charged again I had lost the name of the book, so got on with other reading. Then I found it. This is a round about way of saying the book didn't hook me enough to search for the lost place. But when I found it again the reading became more interesting and I finished it with a better feeling toward it. In fact I bought the next two in the series.

If revenge is a dish best served cold, then 5 years for one part and 30 years for another part ought to be pretty sweet. I think anyone that is on the fence about whether to buy this book should go ahead and take the chance. I struggled a bit with the rating on this and if it were possible, would give it 3.5. I gave it the 4 based on the details Audra used to make her case.
