My only complaint would be that at times it gets a little too pedantic and I lose interest for a few paragraphs. Forsaking that career to indulge in his passion for gardening, he started The Larkspur Company, where he co-produced a series of bestselling garden videotapes. Anthony is a member of the American Rose Society and his small garden has been featured in a number of magazines and newspapers. The mystery itself is outstanding, and I love the tours of the English gardens throughout Britain.

" The Blue Rose" is a somewhat typical British cozy. There is a village, a garden, an amateur sleuth, and, of course a murder. What makes or brakes this type of mystery are characters. Are they vivid or cardboard? In this book, unfortunately they are not very interesting or complex. Good people are goody two shoes, and bad people are just mean ogres.
In all fairness I found this book to be a pleasent, albeit average read. I might try another one in this series. Mr. Eglin might get the hang of it.

This is my first of the English Garden Mysteries. The plot on this one is intriguing, but the development pretty predictable. Attempted plot twists seemed contrived. I enjoyed it somewhat as very light reading -- maybe good for the plane. I have borrowed one more in the series, only because it mentions the gardens on Alcatraz, which are fascinating and wondrous. We'll see what the rose writer does with that really good "lost rose" story.

Each of the horticultural mysteries in this series is exquisite , with wisdom and surprise!!
I am fascinated with the plants and how they are presented by this very clever author even before the mysteries unfold. Am looking forward to additional mysteries in this enthralling series.

The book is full of plant information and was a delight to read.

I couldn't imagine how it would end.
I probably would have given it 5 starts but for the fact that in the end, the action was like so many other mysteries.
I was hoping he'd carry through with no typical bad guy stuff.

I can't wait to read the rest of the series

I was disappointed, actually, with the flow of this story. Too much mentioning of good wines and foods to promote the idea that the author is sophisticated. I also could easily figure out how this story would end.
Wat!?
Lots of intrigue. Industrial espionage. Of all Eglins books I've re a d this is the best one yet. Fast-paced, hard to put down.
The intricate plot, holds your attention all the way to the explosive climax. I comment Eglin for his well crafted story, of death and mystery in a thorny environment.
