Linda O. Johnston's "Hounds Abound" is the third book in her "Pet Rescue Mystery Series." In this book, the manager of a no-kill animal rescue shelter named HotRescues, Lauren Vancouver, finds another mystery case to solve. The owner of the Los Angeles area's newest no-kill shelter for handicapped and senior pets is Bella Frankovick, ex-wife of mean-spirited and animal-hating cosmetic surgeon, Miles Frankovick, is the main suspect when Lauren finds Miles dead in his car in the shelter parking lot. This isn't the first time that Lauren has gotten herself involved in solving a case (Beaglemania (A Pet Rescue Mystery) and The More the Terrier (A Pet Rescue Mystery). Lauren is always up to helping her friends, human or animal, and this time is no exception.

The author has developed the characters well and there are a lot of them. A lot of time is spent with information about the animals and walk-throughs of the shelters when I would have liked a bit more of the mystery case coming forward. I do love the animals that are featured and the hope the book gives for rescue pets that might not find a home or might be given up to a shelter that is not a no-kill. However, I would like to see a little more of the "creep factor" once in a while.

I would recommend the book to mystery and animal lovers despite the bit of a back seat the mystery takes, because it does come forward eventually and is solved in a clever way. The author has to love animals and care about them in order to write the books, so I applaud the series for showing that.

I have read all of the books in this series and the Kendra Ballantyne series. I love dogs and that is what drew me to this series. But I have to admit that I had a hard time staying focused on this book and found myself skimming through paragraphs. While I love dogs, I bought this book because I wanted to read a mystery. There was a mystery to solve in the background, but mostly the book was filled with the day-to-day operations of the pet shelter. I ended up skipping through most of it to get to the end of the book. I really have enjoyed this series in the past and was disappointed in this latest Pet Rescue Mystery.

The Pet Rescue series is one that really caught my interest. I have a great love for dogs especially, and this series about helping them is one I enjoy. The plot of this title was a good and twisting mystery and I enjoyed puzzling it out along with the heroine. On the other side, there are things that I found irritating. They were minor but interrupted my enjoyment of the story. Jumping from the mystery to what was worn and what was ordered for dinner was excessive. The author's repeated references to the other series she writes became overdone after three mentions of that character. Overall, the book was a good read and I would read it again.

There is a new shelter in town and Lauren Vancouver is excited. The shelter, "Save Them All Sanctuary" specializes in elder animals and special needs ones. The new shelter certainly fills a need that even the 'no-kill' ones can handle.

The owner of the 'Save 'Em' shelter is Bella Frankovick, a charming and caring woman. However, her ex-husband, Miles doesn't share her love of animals. Especially since it is funded by divorce monies.

Meanwhile, Lauren is also getting ready to participate in a fund raising race for her and others shelters. Zoey, Lauren's fur pal is truly enjoying the practicing and Lauren is beginning to also. Especially when her boyfriend, Matt joins in with his pal, Rex.

This book is filled with dogs and cats and promotes healthy and safe animal adoptions as well as a good, solid, well crafted murder mystery.

I look forward to the next book in this series.

Series is great for mystery and animal lovers.

I enjoyed this book because it is light hearted and has animals in it. The animals help lighten the mood of mystery books.
