Levels of Deception book. Overall, what makes Levels of Deception stand out from other cozy murder mysteries is that Susan Schreyer creates so much depth. There is more at play here than a murder investigation-you’ll also find yourself hungry to know what will happen to Thea and Paul’s relationship, how Thea will survive her mother’s visit, whether her sister will find a wedding dress, and much, much more.

Book in the Thea Campbell Mystery Series). Thea isn't supposed to obsess about a murder in the basement of Seattle's Burke Museum, even though the victim was her absent boyfriend Paul's colleague - even though her gut screams at her to pay attention. So when the police connect Paul to thefts at the museum and the murder, despite his being two states away on a dig, Thea secretly launches her own investigation to clear him.

Susan Schreyer lives in the great state of Washington with her husband, two children, a demanding old cat and an untrustworthy rabbit. The horse lives within easy driving distance. When not writing stories about people in the next town being murdered, articles for worthy publications, or blogging, Susan trains horses and teaches people how to ride them. She is a member of the Guppies Chapter of Sisters in Crime and is co-president of the Puget Sound Chapter of SinC. Death By A Dark Horse is her debut mystery.

Theft of fossils and a psychic connection to her horse send Thea Campbell into a fast-paced new adventure far different from her first outing. Here she's trying to clear the new love of her life of suspicion of murder--but he won't talk to her. When she's poisoned, she's sent to Paul's archeological dig for safety--but the camp turns out to be anything but safe. And she and Paul are at odds over issues of trust. Readers will keep turning the pages to find out who's stealing fossils, who killed the chair of the department, and who's trying to kill Thea, all the while wondering if the relationship between Thea and Paul will survive. Thea is stubborn, and like a lot of cozy heroines, frequently shoots her romantic relationship in the foot. But she's an entrancing and honest first-person sleuth. A domineering mother and her sister's wedding plans add a few nice complications to this already twisted plot. Cheers for Susan Schreyer on her second novel. Can't wait for more in this series, because now I've gotten to know and like Thea a lot.

Good easy read. Murder mystery with some comedy thrown in to make a good story. I have read all the Thea Campbell books and like them all. Can't give it a 5 star as there should be more about the horses. Hope there are more books to come.

I had awaited Susan Schreyer's next book in the Thea Campbell series with great anticipation....and I am happy to say that it did NOT disappoint. As Thea's relationship with Paul develops, they deal with issues of trust and the future of their relationship with humanity and humor. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them struggle as they investigate a death in Paul's department at the University where he teaches. Schreyer writes witty and believable dialogue and creates convincing situations, so that I found myself cheering for the relationship, while I tried to figure out who the villain was. Kudos to Susan Schreyer for a totally enjoyable and well written book. I look forward to number three!!!

I loved this book for it's fossils and horse as much as it's mystery. It's portrayal of their growing relationship and family ties had me either laughing deep into my belly or irritated, sad, or angry.

It was a great read! Some fun plot twists and turns, but nothing to complex. It was a great book to read to wind down from getting ready for the holidays. I really like this author!

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't predictable and it kept me guessing. I would read more novels from this author.
Wow! Ms. Schreyer has another hit on her hands, one with multi-layered characters and a tension-filled plot that will keep you turning the pages until the very end. There is enough danger and uncertainty to keep you on the edge of your seat, especially when Thea tries to get a clearer picture of what's going on with her boyfriend Paul, who has been accused of theft and worse, murder.
