So you have this tracking trying to find a lost child and he takes you to an old abandoned cabin and indicates he has made a find. Now all the people there with the dog know this cabin well and grew up playing in it AND know about the root cellar because they played in it as well. BUT NOBODY thinks to look in the root cellar??? Come on, how dumb is that? The author said EVERYONE knew about it!!! What a stupid plot mistake... This is a tracking dog with a find!!! A root cellar that could hide a missing/kidnapped child that everyone knows about but no one checks... Give me a break !!!

The story itself was good but not spectacular. I must say that Raine did some seriously dumb things that had me yelling at her while listening. Also, I understood her dog better than she did (and I don't even own a dog). All that aside, it was still enjoyable overall. I listened to the audio. The narrator was very good and did a nice job with voicing the different characters. Not sure the book is worth a full Audible credit but it was worth the combined price of the kindle book plus the whisper synch rate (which I think was about half the cost of a credit, all told).

Raine Stockton, lived in the small Smoky Mountain community of Hansonville, North Carolina all her life. Her father was a judge. Her mother was a respected community leader and member of the Hansonville Methodist Choir for two decades .

Raine is a consultant for the Forest Service, she has a degree in wildlife biology, which qualifies her to fill in for vacations and emergencies and occasionally do some consulting work.

She has loved one dog and been fascinated and amused by a great many others. She has a little talent for training them. Raine also owns and runs a small boarding kennel.

If you are a true dog lover then I recommend you read Donna Ball's - Raine Stockton dog mysteries series.

Smoky Mountain Tracks is the first novel in the series and once you pick it up you'll find it very hard to put it down. The story is based on a murder, and a missing child, so Raine is asked by the sheriff department with the help of her golden retriever (Cisco) to start a search in tracking down the four year old girl.

I'm not going to spoil the story by telling you too much about what happens, I'm sure once you start you will find it difficult to put down.

Start reading and enjoy the journey Raine takes you on.

I bought this book in January but didn't read it until the first week in March. Today is March 17 and I finished the series yesterday. I am now anxiously awaiting the next Raine Stocton Dog Mystery book. I can't believe I have not found this author until now. Thank you Donna Ball for a most entertaining few weeks. I am going to try another of your series but this one is perfect. From the plot to the well developed characters to the realistic dialog, I loved, loved, loved these books.

This is a good cozy mystery. I love dogs and Golden Retrievers are such fun and smart but oh, the puppy-hood can be trying on on the owners. I have the stories to tell of our Golden. So I was excited to read this story and it didn't disappoint me.

This mystery was good...though not too hard to figure out. But cozy mysteries are like art. It is more about the process to make the art than the final product. It is about all the local characters, the relationships of small community and how the "sleuth" discovers the truth.

This was a good story and I look forward to reading more of this series.

... and his name is Cisco, and Raine Stockton is not sure he'll ever be as good as her first tracking dog, Cassidy ... and thus begins an adventure that will either see Cisco to be hero or failure ...and as the very life of a young girl is at stake, we can only hope that he's up to the challenge put before him! Well-developed characters, a good plot, and twists and turns to foil the reader, make this a decent read, especially if you're 'into' dogs as part of your mystery novel.

What a great book! Could not put it down. The story flowed beautifully. A wonderful young golden named Cisco, does a remarkable search and rescue on a little girl. If you like dogs, you will love this book. An environmental lawyer, who can communicate with animals, becomes involved. The ending is a surprise, so I won't spoil it. I did shed a few tears.
Extreme dog lover that I am, I was expecting more from this book. Where was the suspense? A dog trainer that does not believe in her own dog? An emotionless read about a missing little girl when the story was more about the main character, Raine, who felt sorry for herself. Not so sure I want to give the other. Overs in this story a try.
