It was easy to identify with Angus' behavior at some level if not fully. But who needs another interesting story? It was the technique that I was interested in, the technique that boldly refers to finding "power and purpose in a stressed out world". So before I judged the book I practiced the simple breathing techniques for seven days.

At first, it seems a step back to reflect. While reading, I found my self immersed in introspection. Upon completion (and when I reached the end, I wished it wouldn't), I realized this work not a step back to reflect, but a calling to act.

To be.

To live.

To love.

I look forward to reading it, again.

I have worked with Tom and attended his journey to center. I can personally vouch for the experiences that he relates in this book, but this is not something that comes across in this prose. This allegory is too stilted to be believable, the transformation of the protagonist overnight is too perfect. Sometimes self-realization it not enough, it is a constant battle between your Stories that hold you back and your vision. I give it 3 stars because I know Tom and the truth of his work, I would recommend Journey to center though.

When I first met Tom Crum at his weekend workshop, I was enchanted by his humility and accessibility. The material he taught was Aikido philosophy, no attack/effective defense. But it went so much deeper. As a therapist and author, I had studied many techniques and approaches. My summary of his work? "This is the glue that could hold all those ideas together, embodied in the actions we take!" This book is a sweet tale about how to apply this basic idea: if we are centered, taking thee deep breaths whenever we feel rushed or anxious or upset, our words and deeds will be in line with who we want to be. Thank you, Tom, for taking the time to write this.

Tom Crum's new book is the kind of story that slips easily into one's mind and consciousness, light hearted and simple. And then, as with the best of stories, it stays and infiltrates daily life with its wisdom and clarity. At the core is the concept of choice-- our choice each moment to breathe, to look beyond the "shoulds" to the possibilities of relationship, of how to spend the time of our lives, and how to contribute to a happier place for ourselves and all that surrounds us. Why not? Since reading this lovely tale, I find that taking three deep breaths is becoming ever more automatic, and when I take that instant to breathe, I've found a larger, more practical, and more positive approach to a situation at hand. What a gift!
We do too much, think too much, maybe even care too much. Three Deep Breaths:Finding Power and Purpose in a Stressed-Out World will cause you too reevaluate what's important and what needs to go leaving you with a better version of yourself.
