I have been reading this book from the beginning, and I have found it an interesting and easy read. The explanation of ingredients at the beginning of the book was very helpful. As a result, I found a European grocery that sold Vegeeta and a slab of bacon. I found the preferred paprika at World market, as the author said that brand would make a big difference. I made the potato vegetable soup. I did everything as described except substituting parsnips for parsley root (couldn't find any). My husband and I really were surprised at how flavorful the soup was. It was so good. I am so excited that I bought this cookbook. As I'm baking a ham tomorrow, I plan on trying the yellow split pea soup next.
There are so many recipes that look delicious. I think I'll be using this book a lot.

I am thrilled with this cookbook. It is easy to use (spiral bound) and has all the meals I so fondly remember my Hungarian grandma making, from chicken paprikash and dumplings, cabbage noodles and butterhorns (kifli), etc. I have promised my cousin the recipe for plum dumplings, her favorite. I recently went to the Hungarian wurst store in Passaic, NJ to get our Christmas wurst, and came home and ordered this cookbook, because I was so inspired by that trip. I am now on a Hungarian cooking mission to make all my grandma's favorites. I am having a wonderful time with this book...so many options!

I've recently returned from a trip to Europe, where I visited two countries: the Czech Republic, and Hungary. In Hungary, I had the pleasure of eating REAL Hungarian food made by REAL Hungarians! I now feel qualified to say that the recipes in this book ring true. The recipes are just like the ones I ate with my friends at their home, and when we were out at cafes. The recipes in this book are easy to follow, and the ingredients are easy to find. Where I live, I can not buy Hungarian sausages- I almost fainted when I saw recipes to make them at home! I can now die happy!
On the short list of my favorite recipes are: Goulash Soup, Lecso, Pogacsa, Langos, Cherry Soup, Kurtoskalacs, Gundel's Pancakes, and SOMLOI GALUSKA (to absolutely die for!) There are many more...................
This book is outstanding! I love the parts about the history, and especially the Hungarian sayings in the back of the book!
I only wish there were pictures for each recipe- it would help a non-native like myself to know how the food should look in the end. Other than that, I can find no faults with this book. If you want to cook and eat GREAT Hungarian food, look no further than this book.

What wonderful memories came to me,when I started going through this wonderful recipe collection. This is an incredible book! I would rather sit down and go through the whole book, rather than watching TV. These authors went through a lot of searching to comprise such a wonderful book. They also gave me some history of my Hungarian heritage. I have used the recipes since I received my book from Amazon. Had many compliments from my friends. Checking out more recipe books to own. I gave this book 5 stars plus. Thank you Helen! Oh that's my middle name, my Moms name along with 2 aunts. We are all over the place!

I don't know quite where to begin with this review. This wonderful book is so filled with good things for the soul! I have been a fan of Hungarian cooking ever since the first time my Mother made beef Goulash. From that day I would come home hoping to smell the wonderful aromas of paprika, beef and onions. Eventually I started cooking for my self, and finally decided to buy some ethnic cookbooks for the cultures I enjoy most: Italian, Hungarian and Greek. This was the first Hungarian cookbook I bought, and it will be the last. EVERYTHING I want is in this book. And it's not just the recipes that make this book. It's the comments about why the author loves each recipe that brings out the heart of Hungarian cooking. Trust me, if you love paprika and sour cream and food that will nourish your soul, this book is for you. Don't miss it!

Being of Hungarian parentage and born in Australia Helen's Hungarian Heritage Recipes is the best i have purchased. The outlay of the book is well written and is simple and very easy to understand.
There a recipes in the book that my mother has taught me and also recipes i have never known of. This beautifully organised recipe book has given me more incentive too cook and to keep practising my Hungarian cuisines.
I am very pleased to have come across Helen's Hungarian Heritage Recipes. This book is well worth the price paid.
I recommend to all who has a taste for Hungarian cuisine to obtain Helen's Hungarian Heritage Recipes because it is worth the 5 stars.

DEAD-SHOT

This book is unbelievably accurate! My father is 100% Hungarian. His parents were born and raised in Hungary. Since my grandmother passed away about 20 years ago (at the age of 101 - that's due to delicious Hungarian food I'm sure!), my father and I have been on the hunt for the recipes of the amazing foods my grandmother used to make. I made my father's weekend when I used this book's recipe to make Chicken Paprikas. I finally managed to nail it. Thank you for publishing this book and bringing back happy food memories for my father!

First off I am Born and raised untill 8 in Székelyudvarhely, Erdély. I remember my grandmother making 95% of the recipes contained within this book and reading through they seem to be spot on. I have a few recipes from my grandmother who just passed away at 95 and compared them to the recipes in Helen's book and they are virtually identical. I will probably not use half of the pastries or sugary recipes, however the soups, main dishes will most definately be done in Székely fashion. I definately look forward to passing the results of the Hungarian heritage to many family, friends, and coworkers. jó étvágyat, Kedves egészségére!
