This Textbook (my copy: the original 1992 printing Academic Press) is an excellent first exposure to Path Integrals.
For those who intend to specialize in Field Theory, it also makes an excellent preliminary to more involved study.
Chapter One, Mathematical Preliminaries, provides the necessary background of the various tools needed to peruse
the entirety of the book. Exercises are sprinkled throughout: they are straightforward and enhance pedagogic utility.
The following two chapters,comprised of standard material: "deriving" the Path Integral and a qualitative description
of sum over histories, finishing with a nice discussion of topological measure (see Exercise 3.8, Page 71).
A potpourri of applications awaits for the fourth chapter, this including harmonic oscillators, spontaneous symmetry
breaking and constraints. Grassmann Variables presented as clearly as one is likely to find, supersymmetric quantum
mechanics given brief concern here, also. (This chapter, five, a delight to peruse and thus ruminate upon the exercises.)
Field Theory, next. (No "ict", signature of metric is -2 ); the reader works out the properties of Pauli and Gamma Matrices.
Spinors , Helicity, Dirac and Noether precede discussion of Path Integral approach. Accomplished with utmost clarity.
We read: "...unfortunately the validity of the field-theoretic path integral procedure for quantization is even murkier than
its quantum mechanical counterpart."(Page 228). Gauge Field Theory follows--most of the exercises in this chapter are
of the type "verify" such-and-such formula. A nice section on Lie Algebras precedes Yang-Mills Fields and topology---this
including a discussion of differential forms and magnetic monopoles. The last two chapters, Perturbation Theory and
Nonperturbative results,of a more technical ilk---ends with Kinks, Solitons and Instantons. A veritable feast for the mind.
Advanced, but not too abstract.( Of course, this depends on your definition of the terms advanced and abstract !).
The exercises provide additional enrichment, most are not difficult.(Some are trivial--but, that is subjective)
This is an enjoyable text.
Highly Recommended.

A thorough review on path integrals. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a feel on how path integral methods can be applied in field theories, from field quantization and gauge theories to renormalization. The author does his best to keep the material self-contained, but some previous exposition to the contents would surely not hurt.

For whoever likes the book by Feynman on path integrals, this book is very different. The author gives a much more rigourous
treatment of path integrals than Feynman, especially for the "measure" theory underlying these functionnal integrals. The scope of the book is pretty broad, even though the editor insists that the book is not an ecyclopedia. The author's style is much nicer than other textbooks on this subject like the one by Kleinart. The first 1/4 of the book (5 chapters )constructs the theory and its application to simple cases and its very readable by the amateur ( as myself).
