Trees are used as an indicator because they show a more permanent habitat than cropland and grassland, and because they can be used for temporal studies over several years. Damaged trees are detected on a colour infrared photograph by a difference of the colour with the surrounding healthy trees. Stereovision is essential to distinguish such features.
