Ideal for courses that require the use of a graphing calculator, PRECALCULUS: REAL MATHEMATICS, REAL PEOPLE, Alternate Edition, 6th Edition, features quality exercises, interesting applications, and innovative resources to help you succeed. Retaining the book's emphasis on student support, selected examples include notations directing students to previous sections where they can review concepts and skills needed to master the material at hand. The book also achieves accessibility through careful writing and design--including examples with detailed solutions that begin and end on the same page, which maximizes readability. Similarly, side-by-side solutions show algebraic, graphical, and numerical representations of the mathematics and support a variety of learning styles. Reflecting its new subtitle, this significant revision focuses more than ever on showing readers the relevance of mathematics in their lives and future careers.

This book is no difference from the book I got in High School, in fact it is harder to understand than the one that I have had for a few years now. Waste of money.

Great deal

How many revisions does it take to get hundreds of year old mathematics correct? The cost of this book is not worth the material.

I could literally write a dissertation about why this is the worst textbook ever written in the history of the universe. Every detail about this book is absolutely repulsive. The cover is some sort of ugly geometric blob which makes no sense, it is almost as abstract as the concepts covered in the book. Each section has a RIDICULOUS amount of material, phrased very poorly, with TONS of useless practice problems. Like, the difficulty of the problems varies wildly and senselessly, there is no fair medium, it is either so stupidly easy that it isn't even practice and most of the time it isn't even particularly relevent and has absolutely no place in a math book, like matching definitions or fill in the blank problems, or it's so ludicrisly hard that it is unforgiving, mainly because it isn't quite clear what the question is asking for because it was probably written by some condecending math doctor prick who thinks everyone has a doctorate in math and understand the stupidly difficult phrasings of the description slathered in senseless amounts of jargon which only some math doctorate prick could possibly understand. And even if you can decipher the nonsense they call directions, under each heading there are SO many problems, stupid amounts, which honestly no functioning human being in real life has time for. It's overkill beyond comprehension and really is a giant waste of time. And the way the pages are formatted, nothing is consistant, everything just blends together into a giant blob of black and white text with intermingled pictures of a bunch of retarded people dressed up like they just looted a costume shop after an earthquake and were roaming the blank white pages of this book without taking their medication and as such are acting particularly retarded and frankly very distracting. They were probably put there to break up the insane monotony of the overwhelming wave of black text, but don't really help the problem as more add a seperate problem of putting tacky looking pictures in my pre calculus textbook that make me feel like I'm in middle school. So on one side of the page I have AT LEAST 70 to 80 problems written for some sort of MIT graduate to read and find amusing, and on the other side, I have pictures that belong on the walls of an elementary school class room. How could I possibly help feeling stupid after looking at this ridiculous thing, it's like it's taunting me like this book is meant for smart little kids, and I can't handle most of the problems and get them all wrong. Or at least the amount I'm willing to try before I get dizzy and tired from looking at this giant unholy clusterf*** of math words. It just makes me so angry to look at this book and try to actually use it to learn something, then get so confused that I literally get set back, and have to figure out what I thought I knew all over again.

The thing is, my professor is great, the stuff he writes for his practice tests, which he claims is from this very book, doesn't give me issues when we practice in class, it's just when I have to use this book to practice that I get book-throwingly confused and frustrated.

I would suggest that any good professor who teaches Pre Calculus avoid using this book in their curriculum at any cost.

I had the ebook version of this textbook, and I still had a difficult time with it. I'm managing my grades for my math class, not because of the textbook. My old notes from my junior year in high school were what helped me, as well as Google.

That's how bad this textbook is.

This experience reminded me of how I hated my Statistics class.

If you have a class that requires this book, I hope you're able to drop it because you'll have a horrible time with it, unless you're smarter than me. Good luck.
