Nakhle Asmar received his PhD from the University of Washington. He is currently a professor of mathematics and Chair of the Mathematics Department at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Nakhle Asmar received his PhD from the University of Washington. He is the author and coauthor of widely used calculus texts as well as textbooks on complex analysis, partial differential equations and Fourier series.

Nakhle H. Asmar received his PhD in mathematics from the University of Washington in 1986.

David Schneider, who is known widely for his tutorial software, holds a BA degree from Oberlin College and a PhD from MIT. He is currently an associate professor of mathematics at the University of Maryland. Nakhle H. After spending two years on the faculty at California State University-Long Beach, he joined the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1988, where he is currently Professor of Mathematics.

This is an excellent place to start - if you just started calculus, or need a thorough back-to-basics guide.

Concepts are explained patiently and excellently unlike many others that cover the same basic concepts but rush through the 'why's and simply throw formulae at you. On the other hand, the book is kind of verbose and a slow starter. It may not be right if you are looking for a quick tour of the basics. But if you are willing to invest a little more time, it's well worth it. For me, the practical illustrations alongside each concept, were a big incentive and don't make you feel like you are just plowing through a math textbook.

The explanations are far to dense with too few explanations. I am a pretty good studier but every section quiz left me scrambling bac to the text part to figure out how we were to work out the problem. The bood would do well with more examples, discussions of tricks used to solve problems, etc.
Desperately needs a good solutions manual. The one that is on the market is only a smattering of problems, little discussion of the problems, and not updated to current edition.

Who doesn't love calculus? But really, this text explained most of the ideas and topics very well with the kinds of examples and tricks they offered. It was in excellent condition when I received it.

I don't know if they put the wrong price on mine when I bought it but I only paid $18 for it. Came in excellent shape, no pages missing, no tears. I was skeptical because it says "a la carte edition" so I thought it might be shorter than I needed it to be but its perfect! Has all the chapters, all the lessons, and all the answers in the back! Save your money and get this book!
