For each carbonatite occurrence, not only the arithmetic mean values are calculated, but also the regression line. Distinct linear trend of δ18О-δ13С values is found in half of the carbonatite occurrences. The starting, middle, and ending points of the trend line are determined. The slope of the trend line (angular coefficient) varies over a wide range. The trend is dominated by an average angular coefficient of . 0 (positive correlation δ18О-δ13С).

IAVCEI Proceedings in Volcanology. About this book The Trace Element Composition and Petrogenesis of Natrocarbonatites. Carbonatite Volcanism. During the last few years, carbonatites have received a considerable amount of attention. Some of this interest was no doubt kindled by the importance of volatiles in the Earth's mantle, particularly CO, by the fact that carbonatites 2 can be used to monitor the chemical evolution of the sub-continental upper mantle, and by the fact that carbonatites may be effective metasomatizing agents at both mantle and crustal levels. The Trace Element Composition and Petrogenesis of Natrocarbonatites.

Peculiarities of carbonatite flows such as the highly sodic composition, their unique mineralogy, their low eruptive temperatures and viscosities, as well as their association with nephelinitic and phonolitic flows are of major interest to igneous petrologists. Iavcei Proceedings in Volcanology.

Carbonatite lavas are highly unusual in that they contain almost no SiO(2) and are 50 per cent carbonate minerals. Although carbonatite magmatism has occurred throughout Earth's history, Oldoinyo Lengai, in Tanzania, is the only currently active volcano producing these exotic rocks. Here we show that volcanic gases captured during an eruptive episode at Oldoinyo Lengai are indistinguishable from those emitted along mid-ocean ridges, despite the fact that Oldoinyo Lengai carbonatites occur in a setting far removed from oceanic spreading centres.

This volume represents the results of the most recent research on field relationships, volcanology, geochemistry and petrology of Oldoinyo Lengai in Tanzania (East Africa), the only active carbonatite volcano. Peculiarities of carbonatite flows such as the highly sodic composition, their unique mineralogy, their low eruptive temperatures and viscosities, as well as their association with nephelinitic and phonolitic flows are of major interest to igneous petrologists. The wealth of new data, including the role of carbonatitic melts as metasomatizing agents in the earth's mantle are of interest to petrologists and other geoscientists.
