I have to say I love this book. I'm a 59 year old, working physicist and never once understood how weather works - this answered all my basic questions.

Weather is a complicated and difficult subject to study, but this book makes it much easier to learn the basics. I've been studying Climate Change and one really can't grasp all the concepts without knowing about weather in general. Aguado's and Burt's textbook is thorough and covers Climate Change which is helpful to me. If you are using this book to learn on your own, you can choose a topic that you're interested in and read about it, or start from the beginning.

Meteorology The study of the atmosphere and the processes that cause weather Climatology Examines weather elements over long time periods

Part 1. Energy and Mass Chapter 1. Overview Composition and Structure of the Atmosphere. Meteorology The study of the atmosphere and the processes that cause weather Climatology Examines weather elements over long time periods.

10 Horizontal Pressure Gradients The pressure gradient force initiates movement of atmospheric mass, wind, from areas of higher to areas of lower pressure Horizontal wind speeds occur relative to the strength of the pressure gradient Horizontal Pressure Gradients Typically only small gradients exist across large spatial scales Smaller scale weather features, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, display larger pressure gradients across small areas.

Part 4. Disturbances Chapter 12 Tropical Storms and Hurricanes. Introduction, Hurricanes are responsible for astonishing amounts of property damage and loss of life in many regions of the world The propagation of Hurricane Andrew

In Aguado/Burt’s Understanding Weather & Climate, a first-rate textbook and inspired technology tutorials combine to engage students in learning about atmospheric behavior. The authors use everyday occurrences to illustrate meteorology and climatology

Edward Aguado, James E Burt, James Burt. The authors encourage a non-mathematical understanding of physical principles as a vehicle for learning about atmospheric processes.

The fourth edition of Understanding Weather and Climate has been thoroughly updated throughout. Every part of the text has been examined and updated to ensure currency and clarity.Integrating the classic textbook model with emerging areas of instructional technology, this book focuses on explaining, rather than describing, the processes that produce Earth's weather and climate. The authors encourage a non-mathematical understanding of physical principles as a vehicle for learning about atmospheric processes.

I recommend this for anyone who is interested in weather who wants to learn more or for anyone interested in Climate Change.

An OK book attempting to balance between deeper science and accessibility to under graduates

The material in the book scanning through reminded me of high school biology textbooks except in an open form to place inside of a binder. The vocabulary words are bolded, not highlighted. Overall the content appears to be easy to understand which will be great as I transition to college. I look foreword to indulging in this book.

IT HELPED WITH MY COLLEGE CLASS.

Very informative

Garbage book. Came with bent out of shape covers and a torn page! Shoddy publishers.
I have to say I love this book. I'm a 59 year old, working physicist and never once understood how weather works - this answered all my basic questions. I bought it used originally, so I wasn't able to use the online videos and animations - so I'm buying it again new in order to do that. I've read several other of the "big name" books on such things, having to do with numerical climate modelling, weather and climate, etc., but this one takes an integrated approach, avoiding many complex equations, so you can see the entire forest and not get lost in all the equations of this complex subject. It does tell you when it's skipping over something - so it's a great intro as well as add-on to graduate-level texts.
