This is a story for anyone who ever dreamed of hitting it big in Las Vegas. It is also the first of the third generation of the MacGregor series. Mac is Daniel's grandson.
Darcy Wallace ran away from her boring life in Kansas, then had her purse & money stolen at a roadside restaurant. When her car breaks down a mile outside of Las Vegas-- her destination-- she walks into the city. She enters the Comanche casino, inserts her last $3 into the jackpot machine -- and wins almost $2 million. The manager, Robert MacGregor Blade, sees a total innocent, and tries to help her through the initial hassle of a big win.
When Daniel hears about the big win, his meddling genes take over - he sees Darcy as a fitting bride for his grandson. Meanwhile, Mac feels like he is taking advantage of an innocent Darcy, and tries to push her away.

This kind of Nora Roberts book is probably one of the reasons I was never a fan. It's weak and part of an endless, though endearing family saga. Mercifully it is also brief. I think you have to have read some of the other books in the series in order to appreciate the family appeal. The premise in this story is thin and the H is aggravating enough for me to have been rooting for the h to move on to someone better. If you're a fan of this author you will buy this book regardless of my review but otherwise I'd recommend finding something else

This is one of my favorite Nora Roberts books. I love that Darcy seems so innocent but is completely able to fight for what she wants, and that she follows her dreams once she has the opportunity. Mac is a typical Nora Roberts hero, very good looking and successful and of course stubborn about his feelings for Darcy. A plus for me is that you get to see Daniel, Caine, Serena, & Justin again. They were such great characters and I love that we get to see a bit of them.

Nora, Nora, Nora, what can I say. This is from the MacGregor series, and one of my favorites. I have the paperback, but I reread all of her books, and I prefer the Kindle version. Now I have it both ways.

Darcy Wallace's car breaks down outside of Las Vegas. All she has is a backpack with an unpublished manuscript and less than ten dollars to her name. She drops her last few dollars in a giant slot machine and wins two million dollars. Mac the co-owner is called to the scene as she's passed out on the floor. He takes her to a premier suite and must figure what to do with her. As in all MacGregor stories, grandpa Daniel MacGregor must push things along. Can you tell I love these stories.

I enjoyed the entire MacGregors series! Good stories, good attention to details whether it be history (e.g., Scotland) or vocation (e.g., artist, potter).

I thoroughly enjoyed The Winning Hand by Nora Roberts because the main character, Darcy, was such a great character. A small town girl, but nobody's dummy or doormat. She stood up to everybody who crossed her path or talked down to her either because of this small town innocense or her pixie physique. Of course, it's always good to have 2 million dollars and a run of good luck, but it didn't go to her head. And NR kept the reader rooting for her the whole time.

Interesting to read about what seems to be a good description of the activities in a LV casino, as well as the personality and relationship development and progression. I have enjoyed watching how the family relates to new personalities in this series.
It was good not great . It's okay though , I wanted to read the book. I think that happens when you don't buy the book brand new.
