Nora Roberts' books are my go-to guilty pleasure books, but this one did not work for me. This is one of her older works (early 90's), and it shows. The characters smoke like chimneys, for one thing. I don't keep up with trends in romances, but I would think that is unusual these days. The whole cult thing was just so melodramatic and over-the-top.

Nora Roberts is the New York Times bestselling author of over one hundred novels. Her Bantam titles include the recent reissues of Brazen Virtue, Hot Ice, and Sacred Sins. With over 200 million books in print, she is without a doubt the most celebrated writer of women's fiction today. Библиографические данные. Divine Evil: A Novel. Издание: перепечатанное.

When a man was dead, it was the duty of those who had known him to look one last time at his face, to remember him. To speak over him.

Nora Roberts the knot of his tie. After a couple of beers, old Biff would as soon punch you in the face as look at yo. .Less nodded wisely as he studied Biff's face. Rot in hell, you bastard, he thought.

She pushed through them, wondering what had driven him to turn so fiercely back to his childhood faith near the end of his life. Frowning, she dusted off a dog-eared paperback and tried to remember where she had seen the symbol drawn on its cover before. A pentagram, its center filled with the head of a goat

Nothing is more exciting than a good thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you just can't put the book down. This is one of those books

With blowtorch and steel Clare Kimball has sculpted a personal vision that commands the attention of the New York art world. But success can not burn away the vague, troubling memories, the half-remembered nightmares that have plagued Clare since childhood. These phantoms of the past have drawn her home to Maryland, to the small town where she grew up and where her father died in circumstances never really explained. Emmitsboro is just as Clare remembered - the same familiar faces, the same chatty gossip passed over the counter at the local diner. Nothing much has changed - except Cameron Rafferty. Once the high school bad boy, he landed on the right side of the law and is now the town sheriff. The only clue to his wild, passionate nature is the light in his eyes when he looks at Clare. In Cam's strong arms Clare is seduced into falling in love. And into believing her small-town world is safe. But within the dark woods of Emmitsboro something evil spreads its poisonous power. Now the once-peaceful town is wrapped in a cloak of terror, hiding a teacherous heart. And now Clare must pay the price for digging up the secrets of the past. . . and confront an evil that may be unstoppable -- because those who practice it may be divine.
Comments to eBook Divine Evil
I generally love Nora Roberts and her alter ego J. D. Robb...this on the other hand I’m not sure how to describe and I really didn’t much like the book. It was hard to like the Female lead, she was a bit too much of a whiner and the male lead was good and probably better developed but it was really hard to buy into him as a hero until the very end. This story is Dark, dreary, full of both adult and adolescent angst and the writing drug many times. It was wildly leading several goose chases, that sort of came together but was so disjointed it was unsatisfactory. To be honest I usually love the paranormal books she writes but this isn’t a paranormal book. This is murder, mayhem, and pure evil. It wasn’t my cup of tea and it took me days to finish when I normally finish a book in at most two days. Don’t mistake this for paranormal as there isn’t an ounce of paranormal in the book.
I've read a lot of nora roberts books. It was great til the end. But it was as if after saving the girl that was the end of the story. Standing in the woods we will talk later. Then bam straight to the crazy wife. I'm at a loss here. Girl is gone for like a week and then no explanation. Just straight to the end. Very uncharacteristic of one of her books. I know this was written earlier than a lot of the others but it just seemed to be missing something.
Excellent story of the occult, with the main towns elders and older family members being in the occult, and not revealing themselves until the time is right. Also shows great adaption of using everything by Law Enforcement personnel including reaching out to a mentally challenged person. Developing trust between the Sheriff and the mentally challenged person is touching and presented well.
Satanism in a small town thrives unchecked until they finally get careless. A small time sheriff and an artist whose life was affected by the death of her father finally begin to unravel the mystery and race to save lives.
I read it years ago, always remembered the name. But after reading it again i did not remember the story. Just knew it was a good and different story from her other books of which i have very many, including the JD Robb series
Satanism, evil, true love, New York Art Scene - it has it all. Good to the very last page! You won't want to put it down. I'm certain this is one of Nora Roberts best; and she has written some good ones. Based in a small Midwest town where people aren't what they seem. Good ? Bad? You decide.
Clare is having nightmares and she is back home. What are the terrors that haunt her from childhood. Are they nightmares or memories. What was her father involved in? This is one of Ms. Roberts better novels. Her first seven standalone novels were the best until the J. D. Robb series. After the first seven novels in my opinion the plots were to simple, more "Dear Marsha, Dear John". The edge was lost, but as I said that is my opinion.
This was one of the most exciting books I have read in a while. Couldn't put it down. Amazing to think of the difference between good and evil and how it's handled.
