While it is an accurate paraphrase, Perlman's real insight is into reform and renewals reading modern sensibilities into the Torah that aren't there. This quasi-secular midrash is a way of avoiding the hard conflicts within the text. Most other information is available in more elaborated forms elsewhere. Still a clarifying read.

Its ok. I just cant stand books that are bloated with fluff just to add text and pages. allot of it is repetitive and redundant.

I just finished Alan's book, "An Atheist Reads the Torah", and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. In fact, I read it in two long sittings. It was fascinating to read the diversity of psychosis exhibited by "God" throughout. No doubt, the Torah might have made more sense way back during the bloodier and less educated time period of its various authors, but not so much now... without a lot of spin to make it relevent for today's times. He makes his points clearly and it is refreshing to see all the worst traits of "Lord" laid bare (well maybe not so good).
