In consequence it is still a primary source for the Ch’an or Zen school. In this såtra the Buddha began by stripping ânanda of this attachment to the illusory body and mind before reveal-ing the One Mind.

The Surangama Sutra (Hero Method Teaching), is presented here by Charles Luk (Upasaka Lu Kuan Yu), translated from the Chinese text known as 'Leng Yen Ching'. It is believed within the Mahayana Buddhist tradition that in the Dharma ending age, which many believe is now, the Surangama Sutra will be the first of the Buddhist Sutras to disappear. This makes this translation all the more poignant for Buddhist practitioners.

Charles Luk (1898-1978) (simplified Chinese: 陆宽昱; traditional Chinese: 陸寬昱; pinyin: Lù Kuānyù; Wade–Giles: Lu K'uan Yü; Jyutping: Luhk Fūn-Yūk).
He was born in Guangdong province, and moved later to Hong Kong, where he wrote most of his books. Charles Luk often used the title Upāsaka (居士), . Upāsaka Lu K'uan Yü" (陸寬昱居士), referring to his role as a devout lay follower of Buddhism.
