The Hunger (1981) is a novel by Whitley Strieber. The plot involves a beautiful and wealthy vampire named Miriam Blaylock who takes human lovers and transforms them into vampire-human hybrids. The novel is unusual in that it deals with the practical considerations of vampirism, such as the difficulty in obtaining victims and concealing frequent murders.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is an upcoming prequel book to The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It is the prequel to the 2008 bestseller The Hunger Games, centering on the events that occurred 64 years prior to the trilogy. The book was announced on June 16, 2019 by Scholastic Press. The author Suzanne Collins said in a statement that she would go back to the years following the so-called "Dark Days," the failed rebellion in Panem.

WHEN THE anonymous Hunger ly Part Two of the novel-appeared in the Copenhagen journal Ny Jord (New Earth) . Hamsun’s intention in writing Hunger is directly related to these strange states of mind.

WHEN THE anonymous Hunger ly Part Two of the novel-appeared in the Copenhagen journal Ny Jord (New Earth) in November 1888, it set off a flurry of conjectures as to who could have produced such an extraordinary piece of writing. But Garborg’s novel Bondestudentar (1883; Peasant Students), written in the spirit of naturalism, had an explicit social tendency that set it apart from the newly published piece.

I would only add to what other reviewers have said, that Nancy Mayorga's book constitutes an invitation to an inward exploration of an alternate reality more intense and more rewarding than than most of us could ever conceive or even dream of. And unlike drug induced states it achieves its effect by taking you closer to what convinces as ultimate reality, rather than simply distorting current reality in ways that many may find attractive, or even disastrously compulsive.

So far as her works of charity, other than writing her diary itself, are concerned, they are hardly the subject of her account. But whatever they may have been, one can only thank her for this illumination of the spiritual life, and particularly her frank, exhilarating and frequently amusing account of her encounters with her guru Prabhavananda,as vivid an account of such a relationship that one is likely to find. A work of charity indeed. No wonder you can find her book listed at $500 or so on the second hand market, even at that price a very worthwhile investment).

What I loved most about this book is how it stilled me each time I opened it. I love that she doesn't talk about the mundane daily happenings in her life like a worldly diary, but instead allows us to witness her discipline, her dedication to pursuing the spiritual journey within. It inspires me to meditate - nothing could be greater than that! Am grateful for this little book.

This is a book worth much more than its weight in gold. It should be in every library. It's a special kind of classic for those souls with some interest in spirituality. Not religion but spirituality. There is a great difference.

This is an inspirational book by an American woman, Nancy Mayorga, who had a spontaneous awakening experience in 1947. It is an intimate record of her search to deepen her connection with God. She chronicles her inner spiritual journey and her conversations with her Indian teacher Swami Prabhavananda, with whom she studied 28 years. Anyone reading this book cannot help but be touched by the authenticity of her experience, and her descriptions of so called higher states. Mayorga never intended to publish her spiritual memoir. A younger colleague discovered the manuscript and persuaded Mayorga to publish it when she was in her 70s. Mayorga lived from 1904-1983. She was a wife, mother, and writer. Two of her books had made it to the NY Times best seller list. Yet she had a passionate inner life. It was only much later in her spiritual training, that she realized her ability to reach states of bliss through meditation, was unique. She recounts going through very dry periods, as well as times of great bliss, and her realization that all is consciousness. She wrote, " I have felt the pulse of life and I know it to be indestructible. The important thing is to destroy the ego sense which is destructible."

I've paid Hunger of the Soul the ultimate tribute of having read it several times. It's the kind of book you keep on a handy shelf for random re-perusals. The value of Nancy Mayorga's journal is that she provides a glimpse into the heights achievable through meditation. My only quibble with the book and, oddly, I seem to forget this each time I return for a new immersion, is that nowhere in her intense spiritual practice does her consciousness expand to open her up to greater compassion or even awareness of the rest of humanity. This isn't to say that she in fact had no fellow-feeling, but any passing thought of other people (other than for her guru who helps to connect her to her spiritual highs) is noticably missing from her journal. Even when her husband dies, she marvels at how her initial grief is quickly assuaged by meditation. I come away with the feeling that the benefits of meditation aren't intended to be so solipcistic, and that on our own journey we're meant to reach out to others on the path.
