Very few Latin textbooks are able to bring the language alive because of the difficult mechanics of the language. This phrase book provides the reader with useful, everyday phrases that make learning considerably more fun. The text is laid out in a two column format with the Latin on the left and English immediately to the right (YOU DON'T HAVE TO FLIP TO THE BACK!!! YAY!) I taught Latin to myself and had a very hard time because I did not have any way to relate the beautiful language to my life. This book is not perfect; however it is leaps and bounds more useful than Wheelock's or Henley's for daily practice. This is not an introductory textbook; however I do recommend this book to accent any Latin course!

I'm new to Latin. I purchased this book/CD based on the reviews I've read. So far, it's been great. I have completed the first CD and about to start the second. The only thing is, you really have to pay attention. I would recommend this to anyone trying to learn Latin.

It goes over the basic topics needed for basic conversational skills. Is strongly similar to my first semester of Russian language and the textbook used for learning Russian, Golosa. These conversational skills are a great complement to anyone who has studied Classical Latin, for one learns only to read and translate authors like Cicero, Virgil, Ovid, Seneca, Horace, Juvenal, Caesar et al which entails knowing complex grammar constructions. With these skills, not only does one learn conversational Latin but can also establish a good foundation for learning Latin derivative languages conversationally. Overall, this is why I rated it four stars.

This is a great resource. It's well organized and extensive. However, I can't recommend the audio component, unfortunately. Also, it doesn't lend itself to the classroom. It's more like a reference book.
For the classroom, I'd recommend "Nunc Loquamur". That book was designed from the get-go for a busy teacher. Conversational Latin + Nunc Loquamur would make a great classroom combo.

I used this as a textbook two years in a row. I am continually impressed with the extensive vocabulary and the useful section sample conversations. This has helped me perfect my Latin Oral Proficiency, just like it should. The price is kind of steep but if you're serious about speaking Latin then it's a must-have.
