Hollywood Lesbians: From Garbo to Foster. I don't believe Marjorie Main was a lesbian or bisexual at all. What the author doesn't mention is that sometimes she would talk to her dead husband, Dr Krebs while filming a scene. She wasn't attractive or known for her beauty

Hollywood Lesbians: From Garbo to Foster. Behind the Screen: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood, 1910-1969. She wasn't attractive or known for her beauty. She is best remembered for her Ma Kettle role. Patsy Kelly was perhaps the most open lesbian of her time. Sadly, Kelly's interview was a waste. I would have liked to know more about her performance in "Rosemary's Baby.

Hollywood Lesbians is one of author Boze Hadleigh's "exposes" of homosexuality in show business. While the interviews are entertaining and informative, I find that Mr. Hadleigh tends to be self-righteous, and exploitative in the name of "helping" gays and lesbians. His interview with Barbara Stanwyck is downright cruel, and he displays much insensitivity in dealing with Agnes Moorehead and Dame Judith Anderson. Mr. Hadleigh seems to believe that he is qualified to tell everyone else how to run his or her life. Instead of trying to show some understanding towards these.

Interviews Sandy Dennis, Barbara Stanwyck, Marjorie Main, Nancy Kulp, Patsy Kelly, Agnes Moorehead, Edith Head, Judith Anderson, and others about life as a lesbian in the film industry during the so-called "Golden Age of Hollywood"

Lonesome Orange Kid
This was a fascinating read, not only because the subjects were famous (at one time) but because the author probes into areas of their lives that were seldom discussed. The presentation (a question and answer format, apparently rendered verbatim) can get a little tedious because every fit and start is covered in real time. It may have been better for the same information to have been presented in a narrative format. Still, it is a fascinating look at a time and place which no longer exist. This book is recommended.

The remarkable research by the author on each individual interviewed. The manner in which questions were posed showed a highly developed sense of sensitivity and knowledge of how to use psychological nuances to extract optimal information.
This notwithstanding, so many of the women interviewed exhibited high levels of anxiety, fear,
discomfort and evasiveness.
Maintaining an image was far more important than authenticity. Must acknowledge the courage of Capucine, in contrast.
But, book represents the strong stigma of the times against women loving women and how it could destroy careers.
It’s still happening in 2017 and although some steps forward have occurred, it continues to be
a forbidden topic for most.

I bought this book primarily to read the Agnes Moorehead interview. Each star has her own chapter, so if you are interested in the personal words of a particular person, I recommend this book. I did find that the author/interviewer asked a lot of probing and leading questions to try to get each start to admit her sexual preference, and also asks them to talk about other people, which would come up as gossipy. Some of them were visibly annoyed! Stars such as Agnes and also Edith Head have no trouble re-directing the conversation, being clear what they will and won't discuss. Overall an interesting book since the stars are personally interviewed, but the probing and gossipy nature hardly qualify it as a book of literary quality.

Gay history in entertainment is important to me, even though it could be argued it's none of my business who is gay. It's nice to feel represented. It's nice to read about adventures and romance I can relate to. This book gave me happy nosy person vibes.
Phobism
Good read

Very interesting book and accounts by famous actresses of the time.
What fascinating revelations! I read this book from cover to cover and repeatedly said to myself, "Well, I'll be..." I grew up watching most of the people portrayed and never dreamed at the time what was going on behind the scenes. I would have loved the movies and shows even more had I known the whole story.

I rank the contents in reverse order of interest as follows: 3: interviews; 2: author's narrative; 1: index. Reading it all in context was fun. After that, I spent a couple of hours looking at the names in the index and flipping to the page references to zero in on what those people had to say.

This book entertained me for hours and I consider it well worth the cost.
