Daniella Woolf is a wonderful encaustic artist and she combines techniques effortlessly.
In this book she presents many different artists with differing uses of the encaustic medium.
Each artist has their own story to tell, and their own way of expression through wax, which is very enlightening for beginners and advanced encaustic enthusiasts alike. This book shows that wax is one of the most exciting mediums around at the moment.
This is not a "how to" book but a fantastic collection of work and ideas in wax.
This book would be great for beginners and the more advanced encaustic artist because each artist is inspirational in the medium.

i was looking for a book with more intruction, like her other book, but with a textile sensibility. wonderful pics of artists and it's interesting to read about each artist. still inspiring but not what i thought i was going to get.

A lovely book by the wonderful teacher and artist, Daniella Wolfe. I bought this because I was looking for inspiration before I began to work in encaustic. Unfortunately I am allergic to encaustic paint. But I will keep the book anyway because it is so lovely and inspiring.

I was looking for specific instructions or HOW TO do some of the things she has done....but I haven't seen the DVD yet.

Based on the title I thought the book would be about incorporating textiles into encaustic art. Unfortunately I was wrong. This book is a gallery guide of the exhibit of the same title. I also found the pieces not too inspiring. Come to think of it, I'm not sure there was one painting that actually incorporated textiles.

I am going to TRY to write about the wonders of Daniella Woolf's book without bias. Never mind that she is a friend of mine, my first encaustic teacher or that I am actually in the book. This book gives us access to encaustic art like nothing before it.

Daniella does not teach us how to "do it" in this book. For that, see her video of the same title. This book is about seeing work. The focus is on actual art.

ENCAUSTIC WITH A TEXTILE SENSIBILITY is a dream come true for a wax devotee. In alphabetical order, walk through a wonderful curated show and never have to leave. Go back to look at each page and devour every little morsel over and over again. The plates are large, and the print quality is excellent.

Joanne Mattera, the wax mother of us all, says that "textile sensibility" is about the "primal desire to interlace." I am not sure what that means. Sometimes I get confused in this book if I try to figure out the "textile sensibility" of each artist. Mattera, one of my favorite wax Rock Stars, writes a great forward about "the thread." Daniella is a good writer whose reverence for encaustic processes and the ones who do it comes forth in her small introduction. In this book, words are kept to a minimum. The true beauty of this book is that it is filled with great photos of encaustic art.

The book contains work by rock stars and emerging artists alike, 23 artists in all.

Wrap this book around you like it was your grandmother's patchwork quilt. Visit it time and again. Celebrate the wax inside. Be motivated and inspired. Take more risks. And if you want to touch it or lick it, go right ahead.

Daniella has managed to put together an exhibition in book form that showcases the inspired and inspiring artwork of a number of encaustic artists and gives an insight into the work through the artists' own words. Wonderful.
