Inside the Zoo with U2 By Lola Cashman John Blake Publishing. Press releases for Inside the Zoo with U2 described how few outside U2's circle of closest friends have seen U2 as they really are. The book's author, Lola Cashman, was the only person allowed into the dressing rooms before shows and had spare keys for all the band members' bedrooms. Based on the book's subtitle - My Life with the World's Biggest Rock Band - I expected to see a photograph of all the band members on the front cover, not just Bono. And rather strangely the cover artwork was changed shortly before the book was published.

U2 sued Cashman after she tried to sell the clothes and photos at a London auction house in 2002. She further angered the band with her 2004 book, "Inside the Zoo With U2: My Life With the World's Biggest Rock Band

Lola Cashman isn't bitter at all. She's just someone with an amazing story who wants to tell it to the world

Lola Cashman isn't bitter at all. She's just someone with an amazing story who wants to tell it to the world. I think all other fans would enjoy her inside anecdotes about the band. The thing that comes across most strongly is how much she enjoyed her whole experience with them, and how well she got to know their individual quirks and strengths. I'm pleased I gave the book a chance. Other readers have found it a problem that Lola Cashman's story is mingled with the story of the band, but that's exactly why I enjoyed it. It isn't just the story of the band - it's the story of a feisty woman's rise from rags to riches and through her story we see a whole different aspect of U2.

Lola Cashman is one of the few people ever to have been allowed into the inner sanctum of the U2 entourage and gain an insight into one of the biggest bands in the worlds. The tales she has to tell should intrigue any of the band's millions of fans. I am so disappointed I allowed myself to buy let alone read this book, albeit I am proud to say I bought it used and not new thus I did not contribute to the sales for this author. This book is complete trash, crap, waste of time from someone so obviously grasping to capitalize on her time spent with the greatest band in history, U2. Ms. Cashman is so intent to convince the reader she was lured into the U2 lair, hand-picked by Bono himself whilst no one else within the U2 organization liked her, and she spoke so negatively about Ellen Darst which I find so hard to believe her words. I find it difficult to believe Bono would be attracted to luring someone of this caliber to work for him! This author also took great pains to bore the reader to tears with stories of her father, family and up-rearing along with the gambling and crooked antics surrounding the life she was raised in. It really isn't about U2 or working for U2. Lola Cashman is an ego-maniac, on a mad search to find someone, anyone to accept and love her. It is my hope this book did not make much profit for her. If I were wealthy I'd expend the energy to gather up as many copies as possible and have a great big bon fire. Kindling is about the only thing this piece of trash is good for, and that's being kind. Whether you are a U2 fan or not, especially if you are, PLEASE do not even waste your time on this book. I won't even keep my copy or loan it to anyone, I will burn it.

This chick is on crack! Very self absorbed and ignorant this Lola Cashman is. You can totally tell she was trying to capitalize on her time with the band. Most of the stories seem like lies. The only thing I liked about this book was the fact I only paid one penny for it and it's now used to keep my broken window frame in place. It will be used as kindling in my fireplace next time it snows. Even if the stories are true, have you ever heard the term,"Snitches get Stitches!"

First of all, and this may be a minor point, but based on the cover photo and title of this book, I thought it would be about the author's experiences as part of the Zoo TV tour. As it turns out, Ms. Cashman worked for U2 during the Joshua Tree tour 4 or 5 years previous. I find the cover of the book misleading in that sense.

The author does have credibility problems, due to the fact that U2 recently sued her for the return of items they say she stole from them during her employment. The judge found that Ms. Cashman's account of how she acquired the items was highly unlikely, and sided with the band. It's also well established that her departure from U2's employment was not amicable. For that reason she may have a grudge to bear with her former employers. You have to take all of that into account in reading this book.

So should you read it? Well, there are some interesting tidbits here. You learn how the U2 image was developed, and the meticulous planning that went into every detail of their wardrobe and how they presented themselves to the public. On the other hand, some anecdotes seem to have no purpose other than to embarrass the band members. Her continual rants against U2's management seem self serving and unnecessary. And with all due respect, I didn't buy the book to read Lola Cashman's life story.

If you can find this in your local library or used bookstore, it might be worth your time. I wouldn't recommend spending $20-30 on it.

The first thing I noticed checking out this book is the horrible big font. Why blow up so little to such a big volume?

Next thing was the really really bad style this lady has when it comes to writing. She certainly is no author and is not gifted with words. This makes it feel like reading a children's book and I became bored very quickly.

Okay then. One may debate whether her antics about the band are true or not. Personally I tend to believe her but this is not the point. The point is that she is writing about a band she was employed with and still does not know that Larry's last name is Mullen and not Mullin?? And who is this Finton she constantly writes about? According to various other sources the guy is called Fintan. Add a handful of incomprehensible sentences because start and finish definitely do not belong together, some horrible grammar mistakes and then you have everything which is remarkable about this book.

One star because zero stars is no viable option.
