The author of THE HINDU VISION, Alistair Shearer, is most knowledgable on the subject. He thoroughly explains the symbolism of the art. He also provides a good background for the Hindu religion in general. This book has many photos as well, from statuary to temple shrines

The Hindu Vision book.

Marina Sekacheva made a very simple yet stunningly beautiful piece of art, by capturing the essence of those kindred beings during the Camp while they were moving through the process or, maybe, while they were being moved by the process. Thanks Marina for your touching art, a tender revelation of vulnerability and truthfulness.

Theater as a form of art has evolved from medieval times to become one of the best mode of entertainment. Theater artists perform in front of an audience and there are various forms of theater that are performed across different regions of the world. In films, a story is revealed that is enacted by actors and has elements of dance and music to give people a complete entertainment package. Different art forms work are an expression of the feelings, imagination and creativity of an individual. Art knows no boundaries and the different art forms are always of help whenever we feel the need to stimulate our senses.

I then analyse the concepts of representation and expression, and in the course of this analysis I attempt to refute what I take to be the most serious rival analysis of our appreciation of art - the semantic theory.

To the Hindu, the entire universe is a living being, and through the visual arts - ritualistic, compelling, often stunningly beautiful - that holistic awareness is made available to all. Long rejected by the West as alien and bizarre, Hindu imagery speaks a language that is at last beginning to be understood. Its extraordinary symbolism - elephant-headed and multi-armed deities, fierce demons and fabulous creatures - is a sophisticated iconography conveying universal religious truths. Uniting sensuousness and spirituality, passion and detachment, Hinduism celebrates the fullness of life, and teaches the indivisibility of body and soul, time and eternity. Alistair Shearer is a teacher of meditation and a historian of oriental art, who writes and lectures on the sacred function of art and architecture. His other books include "Buddha: The Intelligent Heart" (1992).
