Perpetrates a lie that Bob Kane was the true creative genius behind the world of Batman. Bob Kane did not create much to start with and wasn't even involved with Batman after a few years - Bill Finger created about all to start with, and created/defined the world of Batman during the 25 years he wrote the comic. Now that Batman is of real historical significance, efforts are being made to set the record straight. (see Bill the Boy Wonder by Marc Tyler Nobleman) If the reader knows about this scandal, then can be enlightening within that context.

This tome earns three stars on the strength of its audacity. Bob Kane is a man who never met an idea he couldn't claim as his own, it seems.
Kane made himself very rich on the backs of writer Bill Finger and a host of ghost artists. The narrative in this book, with its clumsy boasts and baldly revised history (including sketches that are almost certainly purposefully misdated to support Kane's claims), provide ample indictment of one man's hubris.
But that's not to say it isn't entertaining in its own sad way ...

So ya think ya know about The Batman,eh? Well, here's the story straight from the man who created him. Bob Kane, one of the rare souls who was able to have some control over the destiny of his brainchild, lays it all out in his whimsical, informative and flamboyant manner. Kane not only tells us about how the Batman came to be, but gives us insights into the kind of world that would give birth to such a character--the Post-Depression era. While Superman was an answer to a cry for help, Batman reflected the "bootstrapping", tougher than shoe-leather type spirit one needed to survive in those days. Kane also reveals his secret mentor and discusses the members of the cartooning studio he created to help him chronicle the Caped Crusader's adventures: Jerry Robinson, George Roussos and most important of all Bill Finger, Kane's studio writer and right-hand man, whom many consider to be the unofficial co-creator of The Batman. Although naysayers challenged some of Kane's assertions when this volume was first published, Kane's claims were later verified by persistent historians. While reading this book you'll laugh, cry, stare in bewilderment and give out a big "Hoo-Hah!" with Kane leading you all the way! It's the kind of book that would make even the dreaded Batman smile...occasionally!

i don t care what anyone says...he came up for the idea of the batman.yes....his coworkers gave him suggestions on what they would change about his character...and he took those suggestions into action....but no matter how u look at it.....there would be no batman...it was his idea...his brain child....who knows if his character would have made it the way he was going to portray it.no one will ever know.yes.. bob kane only pencilled so many issues...but his simple primitive style really made it work.just as shusters style made it work for superman.the artist that ghosted for kane..did an awesome job of holding kanes style...and with bobs name on every comic...who new the better.i truley believe kanes rare style brought batman to where he is today....any book stating that...is totally right on.he stayed by his character by illustrating the sunday strips.that was bobs way of keeping his character alive and popular.there will never be another comic artist...like bob kane.
