This is a surprisingly thoughtful autobiography by Vidal Sassoon. I came to it after seeing "Vidal Sassoon: The Movie," an excellent documentary. I was moved by his rise from humble circumstances by dint of hard work and by his hunger for learning. I knew Vidal Sassoon was a revolutionary hair stylist but never imagined I would be so riveted by the story of his life and by his voice. The book and the movie both capture the excitement of London in the sixties. Sassoon single-handedly modernized hairstyling in the twentieth century and all hair salons today bear the impress of that revolution. I couldn't put the book down.

I bought this book because I wanted to learn more about Vidal Sassoon's early life and how he overcame the impoverished circumstances of his youth to become an international success. I was not disappointed. I also learned some things about the hair cutting business and Mr. Sassoon's singular role in transforming women's hair styles in the 1960s. These were also engaging subjects. As for the inevitable parade of celebrity customers, I found it a little boring, but I suppose that's the part that many of the book's readership have a real hankering for, in which case they will not be disappointed. Mr. Sassoon was a remarkable man and I thought it was a privilege to get to know more about him, in his own words, through this entertaining and undemanding autobiography.

Vidal was a man of his time and ahead of his time. Being a hairdresser I have heard a lot of the stories about this great man. What this book shared was his personal life struggles and what an incredibly media savvy man he was he didn't just have the talent but the brains to become the success he was.

I really loved reading this very thoughtfully written autobiography. I have been a hairstylist for almost 15 years and never knew anything about him as a man, only an artist. I will be reading this again, and will be buying the hardcover. I highly recommend this to anyone with curiosities of hairstyling, pop culture, old Hollywood, WWII history, really there is something for everyone! A worthwhile read, no doubt.

Very much enjoyed hearing about how he got his start and what was happening in London in the day. Would have liked if it had a little more about his cutting technique.

Well written, extremely interesting, I would read this book again...a fascinating man that lived an incredible and well lived life
