The Bicycling Big Book of Cycling for Beginners: Everything a new cyclist needs to know to gear up and start riding. I purchased this book in hopes that I would find some actionable information for new cycling aspirations

The Bicycling Big Book of Cycling for Beginners: Everything a new cyclist needs to know to gear up and start riding. Just Ride: A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike. I purchased this book in hopes that I would find some actionable information for new cycling aspirations. I did! And more! I'm quite impressed by both the knowledge and the simplicity of the layout of information. It really does a nice job of taking you from the general to the specific. The writing is well done and by and large is easy to understand. For the cycling novice, like myself, some of the vernacular is gobbledygook, but I have pressed on.

I will be able to interpret more of the information as I go along.

I would say the only thing missing in this book (and I'm 3/4 of the way through) is a detailed explanation of all the parts of the bike. Perhaps that's in the latter part of the book? I'll update my review with additional information once I review that section.

I definitely feel better about my abilities for cycling based on this great intro to cycling.

I liked this book a lot. There is some information on about any subject you could think of that relates to cycling. It isn't the most in-depth on every subject, but I don't think that's the purpose of this book. I didn't read every chapter, I didn't need to worry about training, as I'm just getting started, but I can see that I will refer to this book again and again over the coming year as I progress in the sport. I would highly recommend this to someone looking for an overview of cycling to help them make decisions about what equipment they need and how to improve at their specific discipline. If you're a beginning cyclist - this is a great book.

This is good basic information that is covered in a number of other introductions to cycling. It is the kind of book that should be included free when you buy a new bike, like for years "Play It Pro" by San Sneed was given away when you bought a set of Wilson golf clubs. Is this book worth $8.00 with shipping? Not to me, there are a number of much better books in that price range, such as Cycling to 100. Great Book. Having said that, it is a solid little book that covers all the bases, you can have it read in an hour or two and give it to a friend.

I'm just getting into this sport, and the tips in this book came in handy. Yes, I know how to ride a bike, but it's the little details it gave me that helped. Have you ever dropped your chain off the chainrings? You don't have to stop to fix it you know. I'd buy it, even if you're more experienced than the likes of me. I've taught some of my friends a trick or two. Sometimes I wish I didn't, they can still drop me pretty hard!

It was helpful, but not exactly what I needed. I wanted something a little me basic, I didn't plan to enter the Tour De France or cycle my entire life. I hate to say it, but some of it was above my head.

Good book to remind you of the basic riding skills and rules. I purchased it for a new rider in our group and believe it will give her some great information.

Zinn and the art of mountain bike maintenance includes everything this book does as far as fitting and essential knowledge plus has the information you need for fixing, maintaining and upgrading your bike. I didn't find much of anything useful in this book and I am a newbie rider.
This book is a handy guide for beginner cyclists to at least get the basics from. Not overly technical, and written with the beginner in mind it certainly helped me learn a few things about cycling. I'm pretty new at this so it was a good fit for me. If you're a bit more experienced you may be better off with a less "beginner" book.
