Peter Leslie Shilton OBE (born 18 September 1949) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He currently holds the record for playing more games for the England men’s national football team than anyone else, earning 125 caps, and holds the all-time record for the most competitive appearances in world football – 1,390. The IFFHS ranked Shilton among the top ten goalkeepers of the 20th century in 2000.

Throughout the nineties he became increasingly embroiled in gambling and related problems which culminated in near bankruptcy.
