A Record of England: Sir. Stone (1838-1914) is currently most well known for his parliamentary portraits and studies of British customs. In 1897 he announced the formation of the National Photographic Record Association for which worked tirelessly - his collection comprising some 22,000 prints, 600 steroescopic images and 50 albums.

In 1897, Queen Victoria's Jubilee year, Sir Benjamin Stone (1838–1914) announced the formation of the National Photographic Record Association (NPRA). The result would be a national memory bank that would foster 'a national pride in the historical associations of the country, or neighbourhood, in family traditions'.

The National Photographic Record Association was established in 1897 to create a record of English life, towns and landscapes. Sir John Benjamin Stone was a British Conservative politician and photographer. During its thirteen years of operation, 5,883 prints were collected by photographers including Benjamin Stone, Edgar Scamell and many others.
