This book surpasses all other books on Ted Bundy; the authors maintain a professional detachment and yet get TB to talk about his crimes in excruciating detail. No other book describes them in such detail, that is hard to read and even worse to contemplate. This was done by having TB relate his crimes in the third person as supposition, not fact, and it is a real nightmare journey through the mind of a serial killer who was personable and brilliant yet so damaged, so warped, he was a freak and aware of it which was so much worse. Apparently TB was born to his mother and his father was both his grandfather and father; Louise had to go to a home for unwed mothers and her father had a violent temper and a short fuse, characteristics that he passed on to his son-grandson.
Another unusual facet of TB's personality was he was able to carry on long involved relationships, while torturing and murdering untold numbers of victims at the same time. It was stated his first real love was a rich intelligent classy lady who ultimately rejected him when she sensed TB was emotionally immature and would stay that way; she had long hair parted in the middle as did all of TB's victims, so he killed her over and over and over again. One wonders if he had killed her, would he have had so many victims?
He was also a necrophiliac, returning again and again to have sex with the bodies of his victims, sometimes for weeks afterwards.
For me, the most horrific and shocking torture-murder of any victim was the 12 year old victim, Kimberly Leach, who he lured from school telling her her parents were in the hospital and he would take her to them. A female driver saw him screaming at someone she couldn't see and you can only try to imagine the terror of this little girl being abducted by this maniac who screamed at her then raped her with a nine inch hunting knife. This one victim is the only one TB refused to talk about but did say her fate was horrible.
Some others were "kept" for up to two weeks before he finally killed them, and one, Kathy Parker, was driven for 5 hours to and from her final place. The thought of knowing you can never escape for up to two weeks is just beyond belief.
His escapes from Colorado jails were incredible and wherever he went, Utah, Colorado, Florida, he left victims in his wake until finally, being unable to stop, he stopped himself by getting caught.
He was finally executed in 1989 and so ended the life of one of America's most prolific serial killers.

Pretty interesting read. It includes the "normal" side of his life, and it really rounds out the story. Well written.

Many books out there on Ted Bundy, and this is one of the more read titles. However it is an early edition, and Ted lived another several years before executed for his crimes. He does delve somewhat, in 3rd person, how he committed some of his crimes. Written by 2 men that interviewed Ted on death row. Not the best read on Ted, but worth a look.
