I just walked out of the Disaster Artist at Union Square 14.
Nick Zed is so opposite... and so much superior to anything that B level Hollywood ever excreted. Nick excretes... but on a more visceral level. If Zed had 1/100th of Wiseau money he would transcend him in one second and he has without the bucks. Surf reality and Collective Unconscious- my artistic homes 1995-1998. Chumley aka C. Francis Jr. shout out to Faceboy and Rev Jen too!
Rare
Uncompromising and beautifully unsettling - Totem of the Depraved is the car wreck you can't look away from; Zedd is a ragged gorgeous mess and a true genius.

Zedd is anything but dead kiddies. I had the great pleasure of interviewing Mr. Zedd shortly after this book was published. After reading the book cover to cover a number of times I became compelled to introduce the readers of The Aquarian Weekly in New Jersey to a brilliant and dangerous talent and a true independent film pioneer.

Peel back the decadence and depravity and you'll find a punk with a heart. Zedd's memoirs of time spent in GG Allen's carnival or filth says it all as far as who Zedd is at his core, he has a very deep soul and a lot of heart even though he'd probably never agree.

Mainstream success eludes him and rightfully so; something would be seriously wrong with a universe that would or could understand and embrace his genius. It is rare but there are artists who operate on such a visceral and honest level that they can never be embraced by the masses.

I, consumed by ignorance and what I thought was good intentions, tried to write a piece that would make Zedd more appealing to the masses. I twisted his answers and quotes and wrote a piece that was anything but honest and Nick had my balls in a sling after reading my first draft. Immediately I saw the error of my ways and realized how heinous it is to misrepresent a fellow artist's words in print. It completely went against everything Nick Zedd is and will ever be. Zedd is uncompromisingly diligent in his quest and more often than not, brutally honest. It's honesty most can't handle, and very few can't get enough of, my hat is off to him always!

This fascinating memoir has not one scintilla of whining. It is in fact, brilliant, succinct and hilarious in it's depiction of life in the world of underground films and the struggles faced by an uncompromising realist on a mission to demolish the consensus reality of fools.
Denounced and ignored by narrow minded bigots, cynical dilletants and academic poseurs, this stunning slice-of-life classic is filled with fascinating anecdotes about genius & subgenius talents like Jack Smith, Lydia Lunch, R.Kern, Rick Strange (aka Eric Pryor, the Witch Who Switched) Tommy Traitor and the infamous legions of the Cinema of Transgression, a revolutionary vanguard of low-buget filmmakers operating out of the Lower East Side in the 80s, 90s & now. Directors like Manuel DeLanda, Kembra Pfahler, Lung Leg, John Spencer & more are mentioned along with volatile visionaries like Fritz, the bald Swedish schizo lover and the late G.G. Allin, Crown Prince of Puke among the snarling denizens of a subterranean omniverse dedicated to true freedom & subversion. A highly recommended antidote to the corporate tedium passing for entertainment in our lives!
FLIDER
If you know anything at all about the Cinema of Transgression, you'll find this book fairly interesting. Like his one-time paramour Lydia Lunch, Zedd, however, slips off into melodrama and whining nonsense far too often. Punk erotica for the self-righteously 'anarchistic'.
