High dose corticosteroids (CS) are often used as first line treatment for patients with Cryptogenic Fibrosing Alveolitis (CFA). There are reports of significant respiratory muscle myopathy following administration of much lower doses of CS in patients with asthma and chronic bronchitis. Inspiratory muscle training programs require patients to generate inspiratory pressure at a level of at least 30% of maximum for a few minutes each day. Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) generate pressures well in excess of this for many hours each night. University of Nottingham.
