Claremont McKenna College Scripps College Pitzer College. Goals of This Text This text is designed for an introductory course in organic chemistry and assumes, as background, a prior course of general chemistry.

William H. Brown is Professor Emeritus at Beloit College, where he was twice named Teacher of the Year. He is also the author of two other college textbooks; "Organic Chemistry 3/e" published in 2002, and "General, Organic, and Biochemistry 7/e" coauthored with Fred Bettelheim and Jerry March, published in 2004. he received h is PhD from Columbia University under the direction of Gilbert Stork and did post-doctoral work at California Institute of Technology and the University of Arizona.

This text provides an introduction to organic chemistry for students who require the fundamentals of organic chemistry as a requirement for their major. It is most suited for a one semester organic chemistry course. In an attempt to highlight the relevance of the material to students, the authors place a strong emphasis on showing the interrelationship between organic chemistry and other areas of science, particularly the biological and health sciences.

The 13-digit and 10-digit formats both work.

William H Brown, Thomas Poon, Mark S Erickson. Introduction to Organic Chemistry: Student Solutions Manual. Thomas Poon, William Brown. I needed an Organic Chemistry book used because I didn't want to spend 200$ in the bookstore and this one for only 30$ caught my eye. It said there was a mild coffee stain along the bottom and some wear around the edges. The book arrived with exactly that condition and I am pleased that the seller was honest and there were no troubles whatsoever. A valuable and well-written tool. com User, March 19, 2006.

by William Henry Brown (Author), Thomas Poon (Author). I bought this book second hand. It arrived in excellent condition and very quickly. This book enables readers to see the connections in organic chemistry and understand the logic. Reaction mechanisms are grouped together to reflect logical relationships. Discusses organic chemistry as it is applied to real-world compounds and problems. Electrostatic potential plots are added throughout the text to enhance the recognition and importance of molecular polarity. Presents problems in a new “Looking-Ahead” section at the end of each chapter that show how concepts constantly build upon each other. Converts many of the structural formulas to a line-angle format in order to make structural formulas both easier to recognize and easier to draw.

I'm really glad I purchased the book for this class. The text is clear and concise, and has been very helpful to supplement the lecture. The book gives example problems, and talks about strategies to approach them, and why one answer may look correct, but isn't. If you're on the fence about purchasing the text, but a little nervous at all about taking organic chem, I would recommend getting it.

The textbook is OK. My instructor disagrees with it quite often, so it's not a bible for the class I'm taking, which is kind of a bummer. But it's an OK chem textbook.

The real problem with it is WileyPlus, which is crap. I got a used textbook, so it didn't come with a WileyPlus code, so I had to buy it separately. It was $95. (!!) It gives me access to an electronic version of the textbook and homework problems. The homework in there is totally impossible--drawing molecules with their program is guaranteed to frustrate me, and I spend way more time trying to learn the stupid thing than actually learning organic chemistry. Also, the textbook is in frames (Frames!), so I cannot read it on my iPad because half of the text is off in outer space. WileyPlus is just plain awful.

So, before buying a used copy of the textbook, find out if your instructor is going to require WileyPlus and then figure out which is more economical because a bunch of people in my class ended up spending way more than they needed to when they got the used book and then had to buy the WileyPlus separately.

What I needed for class.

I had a good time learning with this book. Just watch out for differences with you professor opinions. This book has a lot of detail and little insights on every thing so you dont get lost, though very few times they skipped steps on solving an organic chemistry problem. Also, my seller was very cool and attentive.

I bought this book second hand. It arrived in excellent condition and very quickly. It is the best chemistry text that I have seen. I am using it as a general organic chemistry to gain background understanding for Botany. It is very well set out and easy to follow even without much of a background in general chemistry.I would recomend this book to any one who wants to enter the world of organic chemistry from the ground up.Most excellent !

The Kindle reading system is horrible. I can't scroll, edit my interface in the slightest (such as moving the fullscreen button so I don't accidentally hit it on my touchscreen when trying to access the zoom feature), and their customer support is nonexistent. The solution manual itself is not helpful, and I sincerely regret having purchased this semesters textbooks in this format

Great & very interesting
This textbook arrived on time and the quality was better than expected. The discussion of some topics occasionally requires recourse to other textbooks on General Chemistry for best understanding. The size of the font used is smaller than I would prefer, but is readable for users with better eyes. All things considered, this text is a good value at the price offered.
