The Clue in the Diary is the seventh volume in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series, and was first published in 1932 under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene. Its text was revised in 1962. This is the last manuscript Mildred Wirt Benson wrote in her initial run. She would return for volume 11, The Clue of the Broken Locket, and remain with the series until 1948, then return for a final ghostwrite in 1953.

Stella is a Saluki, a purebred Arabian Desert princess and somewhat of a diva. Much to her chagrin, she has fallen into the hands of a family of infidels and is forced to reside with them and their revolting common dog. She, on the other hand, dreams of a life amongst her fellow Bedouin canines, roaming the deserts and hunting for game.

Saturday, 14 February 2015. A Message From The Shrew. I actually quite enjoy Christmas, on the basis that the infidels become very careless about the plates of food stacked high with the most sumptuous goodies.

To dweeb or not to dweeb. Enclosed in these pages is the life story of the Highest Ranking of all the Dweebs. You might not know me now, but one day you will. Ha, ha, ha. See that sentence right there shows you how much of a dweeb I am. Who am I kidding thinking anybody besides my family would want to have anything to do with me? For me it isn’t a question of to dweeb or not to dwee. I am what I am, and there is no changing tha. The first thing I heard when I woke up was my mother’s voice screeching my name.

This book is going straight onto my shelf of all time favourites. In 2001, after having difficulty settling on a career he enjoyed, Shaun bought The Book Shop in his home town of Wigtown, in the Galloway region of Scotland

Much to her chagrin, she has fallen into the hands of a family of infidels and is forced to reside with them and their revolting common dog. She, on the other hand, dreams of a life amongst her fellow Bedouin canines, roaming the deserts and hunting for game. Stella spends her time plotting a regime change, passing her days in "captivity" by tormenting both the infidels who think they own her and their dog. This is the diary of a sleek canine princess, who documents her days with her "owners" and the methods she employs to torment them. The story takes place over a two-year period in the home of British ex-patriots living in Saudi Arabia. This clever novel will take you where you have never gone before. I think you have to have been owned by a saluki to truly appreciate how well the author captures the attitude of this more than unique breed. Saluki ancestry goes back to ancient times and they KNOW this! Granted,Stella's situation of being rescued and events leading up to her being "captured by the Infidels" may have added to the feeling of being trapped, but having shared my home with a most regal and wise member of this breed,I'd have to say that the saluki attitude of being "above" the humans and merely tolerating life with them, never letting them know how fond you REALLY are of the insufferable creatures,is captured well here.

I must admit, I thought the price a bit steep for such a small book, but the excerpt I read captivated me, and I could not resist it. I have now taken to referring to my own collie princess as "Stella" when she does not answer to her name. (Any of them.)The photos are a very nice touch. I might have liked a touch more resolution to the ending--but perhaps Stella was holding something in reserve for the sequel. Kudos to Stella's jailers, who plainly love her. If only they adored and worshipped her instead...

A very easy read. Quite funny and spot on if you are familiar with or have a Saluki. My Saluki is “paw pals” with Stella

If you're familiar with Salukis , you will love this book about Stella who longs to be running free in the desert rather than live in a home as a spoiled pet. I laughed out loud at Stella's plots to escape.

Absolutely loved the book, read parts of it to my Saluki even.

I enjoyed this book and felt it gave me insight into others' struggle with this adorable and sometimes enigmatic breed, but the story didn't progress past Stella the saluki complaining about her imprisonment and so there was no resolution or redemption at the end of the story.

A very funny book, especially for people with hounds and even more for people with Salukis. Written by the prisoner herself, with day to day, true to life happenings. I (for one) hope mine will be trying to get along with me a lot better than this Bedouin Princess with her Infidels.
A delightful look inside the mind of a captive princess.
