I purchased this because it was recommended by Christopher Schwarz as a great book for the beginning woodworker. While the title is deceiving, it is oriented toward furniture making and fine work, not construction type projects. Hayward shows that it is not difficult to build great projects using hand tools exclusively in a small workshop. Half of the book contains basic project ideas and plans to inspire the reader, while the other half discusses technique and joinery. While not a complete guide, it is a great book to start with and get the reader into the hobby.
