I had to purchase this book for a class that I am in right now, but found it to have great content. There are a lot of facts and data about how much each continent/region gives to world causes, and has provides clear information so that you can form your own opinion. It is definitely interesting if you are using it for school or also as a resource for any type of project on this subject matter.

If you're reading this, this book will make you uncomfortable. Sider doesn't hold any punches as he compares our excesses to the Bible and the current world situation. If you are ready to change your understanding of what Christ desires of you in this world, pick up this book.

There is a newer edition available, but mostly the stats are just updated from what I understand.

Great book and really looks deep into hunger and poverty from a Christian framework and what we are called to do to address the issue long term.

The book is being used for a discussion group so I have only read the first few chapters. It is very thought provoking and I think it will change how I choose the charities I support. It is something that every person who lives a comfortable life should read, Christian or not. It is not intended to make us feel comfortable. However, some of the pages are coming loose in my copy and that is annoying so it does not get five stars.

I have learned much from this book about POVERTY. Poverty is not just
a lack of money. It is a lack of money, lack of health care for even
simply treated diseases, lack of education opportuniites, lack of resources, lack of employment, lack of clean running water, but most of all a lack of hope.... this book is an eye opener about how half of the 6 billion people on this planet are living on $2.00 or less a day!!! It makes one really think about those conveniences and material possesions that WE cannot live without, while there are billions of people who are so
desperate for just the simplest of things to make it through another day.

I purchased this for a seminary class.

This book is probably one of the most compelling reads I have ever feast my eyes upon. Sider provides excellent evidence for his arguments in both scripture and sociology/environmental sciences. Has impacted my way of thinking and life in general. Highly recommend everyone to read it.
A must read for every person of any age. Eye opening Amazing challenge to us.
