A Window Into the Past is a glimpse into the world of the 30’s and 40’s on a farm in southern Mississippi. It chronicles the life of a young girl growing up in an environment of war, poverty, heartaches and happiness. In an era before rural electricity, twenty-six chapters reveal a way of life that few children today understand. Grandparents will remember with delight the life of a child who finds satisfaction in everyday functions on the farm. It was a time when self-sufficiency was the prime concern of these depression farmers and their families. This included slaughtering pigs, making sugar cane syrup, fishing fresh water streams, planting food crops, preserving food, tending cows, and washing clothes outside in iron wash pots. Long outdated activities are remembered by the author in detail to keep this window of the past open for future generations both young and old alike.
