Sometime during the night she began to doze. It was charming, with two bedrooms, a roomy kitchen, a quaint parlor, small enough that when Tina cried out in terror-filled dreams, Jenny could be at her side instantly. But the throbbing in her shoulder kept her on the edge of wakefulness. She felt herself stirring restlessly, making soft hurting sounds. And then it eased, the pain and the restless tossing. Jenny heard the phone being moved and then two small voices were saying, Hello, Mommy. Mark’s arms held her tightly as she sobbed, Mouse. I’m here, Tinker Bell.
Wednesday night Rooney was in the hospital. She was staying with Maude Ekers. Clyde, don’t you see what I’m trying to tell you? Just one more question. Quietly Jenny lay in bed timing the contractions. From ten minutes apart for two hours, they suddenly accelerated to five-minute intervals. Jenny patted the small mound in her abdomen. Jenny patted the small mound in her abdomen young Mr. Krueger, she thought. For a while I wasn’t sure we would. Dr. Elmendorf had been cautiously pleased on her last visit. The baby is about five pounds, he said. I’d wish it bigger but that’s a comfortable weight. Frankly I was sure you were going to deliver prematurely. You’re right, Mrs. Krueger. You’re going to have a boy.
A Cry In The Night has been added to your Cart. This was not Mary Higgins Clark at her best. In this book I found her main character to be so unbelievable for a modern day woman who was living and working in New York. I wanted to slap Jenny for her ridiculous and unbelievable choices she made from the beginning. Eric's obsession with Jenny from the very first was obviously because he had a sick attachment to his mother.
