Multiple Myeloma is a very complex and confusing disease for a patient to wrap their head around. Even when a oncologist explains it well enough for patient to understand it they can then struggle to give their loved ones enough information to make them feel like they know what's going on. This book fills the gap and helps everyone who is facing this condition, either for themselves or for a significant other, to get some basic questions answered.

The book's language is straight forward and plain enough for a lay person to grasp yet written intelligently enough to inspire confidence. I would not suggest using this just this one book if you are the one trying to cope with having MM in your life as it is fairly clinical and somewhat generalized. Still, it's a great book to give to family and close friends who want to understand what you are dealing with.

This small book represents a very tidy, concise, informative introduction to this rare disease, multiple myeloma. It is a very complicated disease process, and whether you have some basic medical knowledge or not, the reader will appreciate how easy it is to extract information and answers to questions.

Written by a physician specializing in the disease and a patient who has experienced the worst of what this disease can offer, together they deliver hope and basic knowledge so a patient, care giver or relative can make informed decisions.

I am personally inspired by the patient (and author) James W Huston. There are real and promising treatments and he quite simply embodies the term survivor. I would like to express my appreciation to Dr. A Bashey as well. I urge you to get this book as a excellent first resource to aid you and your family or friends in the fight against myeloma.

We needed to find some quick, no nonsense answers to questions we had because of an unexpected diagnosis in the family. This book was very informative and answered a lot of basic questions we had about what Meyloma is and treatment alternatives. Since it isn't one of the more common forms of cancer, there isn't a lot of material (like the "dummies" books). This book helped us find out what we needed in order to make informed decisions.

The book is fine, but it is rather outdated, although, let's face it folks, MM is not outdated and it does answer a lot of FAQ.

My husband was just recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma and we're all in shock. This was the first book I bought and it was the perfect book for the newly diagnosed. If you've been receiving treatment for awhile you probably know it all. But for me it filled in so many blanks and allowed me to ask the right questions. If you're starting out, get this book.

Aa a newly diagnosed individual with Multiple Myeloma I selected this book as the best one to read to get an understanding of this disease. While it was helpful in many ways, since reading it I have become aware of the significant advances in treatment for MM that have been made since this book was published. Reader should keep this in mind when reading it and not rely on it as their only resource.
I purchased this book for my mother who was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The format of the book (Q&A) is very easy to read but also informative. Now we all better understand what the doctors are talking about and the treatment options, side effects, etc. This is a must have for people stuggling to learn quickly about multiple myeloma.
