Zippy is an acquired taste, at least to me. Griffith's drawing ability is great and his humor is bizarre. Though some references are now dated, his slant on our consumer culture still rings true. Buy it and read it several times through.

First, I read and loved Zippy voraciously in the 80's (and maybe 70's, can't recall) and for me, this is Griffy's magnum opus of Zippiness. Note how Griffith dwells on Ernie Bushmiller's zen qualities though Nancy and Sluggo decades before the current fascination. (He's working on a graphic Bushmiller bio, so something to look forward to.

ZIPPY is THE most original and greatest comic in mainstream press today. It's art is fantastic; the writing sublime (and sometimes just plain stupid--but in a good way). Bill Griffith CARES about his craft. This comic is not out to just be "topical" or just deliver a daily "gag" (too many strips deliver gags--and not the good kind). ZIPPY is a comic about the love of cartooning and writing and observation. Try it--you maynot get it at first but if you stay with it it gets you!
