So this was the first prose novel I have ever read and the first purchase for my kindle. I am a huge fan of the X men and always read their comic books. While after reading the actual comic book I found it to be better, the novel was a nice change of pace. I can read a graphic novel in a day, but this obviously has a lot more written detail in what is happening in the scenes and took me a little longer. This told the same story as the one written by Joss Whedon in the first six issues of astonishing x men. If you enjoy reading x men or superhero fiction, then this is perfect for you. One benefit to this over the graphic novel is that you can't accidentally see whats gonna happen at the bottom of the page. This book does a good job of keeping you surprised throughout the entire read. Peter David isn't a bad author. He details the scenes just as well as they are illustrated in the graphic novel with little to no grammatical or spelling errors. The end of the novel comes with a preview for the next novel entitled "Breakout". Its a nice addition. Five dollars isn't a bad price for the kindle version, so if you are on the fence I would recommend giving it a try.

Being a big fan of the X-Men, I loved the story.
I've read many books by Mr. David, he has written many
Star Trek books. This book reads like a comic book without the pictures,
definitely for mature readers with the violence. I just can't get my head around
Ms. Frost being part of the team and a teacher no less, Scott what the hell she's
in your bed also? You remember a girl named Jean don't you? The Phoenix
should come back and fry you both.

A workmanlike adaptation of the source material. Peter David is a huge talent, but this is pretty much a straight to text translation of the original comic story, nothing to make it stand out.

It's a good story but not great. Needs more action and less talking but it's still a good story about how everyone is different and nothing is wrong with you no matter what others say.

I think that this prose version is a good way to get the story, but you miss the great art of the comics and you don't get the real depth of a real novel.

Well written story expanding upon the early comic run with Joss Whedon. Author Peter David keeps the action and events moving and offers insights not seen in the comic. Only possible complaint is it's such a fast read it was over too quickly.
Cemav
A really exciting story taking place in the X-Men universe. I look forward to watching the motion comic too because I really enjoyed the other Astonishing X-Men stories. It was neat to read how it all began.
It adds a few scenes and goes more in-depth than the comic, but it really didn't add as much as I had hoped. I recommend reading the comic first, then reading this if you want to see a bit more.
