Series: Faber Books on Wine. If you read Radford's book, you get a broader, more polished picture with history and gorgeous photographs. He too divides Spain into the main regions and then looks at each area in context to the region and history. Radford includes information on viticulture but his focus is on making the area more comprehensive in terms of illustration and overview. Jeffs, without the use of photography (there are plenty of maps though), provides the details that bog down narratives.

Series: Faber Books on Wine. This is probably the best Wine book I have ever read. In depth on pretty much everything whether it is history, funny anecdotes or the specific methods formerly and currently used for tilling the soil in the off seasons. Paperback: 304 pages. One person found this helpful.

This is a good read and yes it dated. But it great to see what the Loire looked liked as New Appellations were being introduced, competition with New World wines became fierce and how vignerons from small hamlets had to both maintain tradition yet still make wines that could be appreciated outside the local restaurants. It is also from a time when the writer may taste a wine from a town for the first time which is now readily available (if your a wine nerd in a metropolitan city). Roger Voss goes into great depth about the traditions, histories of towns, visits and revisits notable winemakers, includes tasting notes, vintage notes and even specific permitted yields and varieties which can be dry at moments. At the end of the book it has even more hard facts of when every appellation was created rules etc. Then has address of Winemakers to Visit, restaurants to eat at and more.(though I would not use this as my sole guidebook as some of those people may not be alive!)
