Henry Richard Vizetelly (30 July 1820 – 1 January 1894) was an English publisher and writer Vizetelly was born in London, the son of a printer. He was early apprenticed as a wood engraver, and one of his first blocks was a portrait of Old Parr. He was in San Francisco, California, when gold was discovered in 1849.

In 1865 Vizetelly became Paris correspondent for the Illustrated London . Henry Vizetelly's interest in wines led to the creation of several books.

In 1865 Vizetelly became Paris correspondent for the Illustrated London News. The Wines of the World Characterized & Classed: with some particulars respecting the beers of Europe was published in 1875 and Facts About Champagne and Other Sparkling Wines Collected During Numerous Visits to the Champagne and Other Viticultural Districts of France, and the Principal Remaining Wine-Producing Countries of Europe was published in 1879. He was Wine Juror for Great Britain at the Vienna and Paris Exhibitions of 1873 and 1878.

Henry Vizetelly (30 July 1820, London - 1 January 1894) was an English publisher, the son of a printer. In 1865 Vizetelly became Paris correspondent for the Illustrated London News. He was early apprenticed as a wood engraver, and one of his first blocks was a portrait of Old . . During the years he remained in Paris he published several books: Paris in Peril (1882), The Story of the Diamond Necklace (1867) and a free translation of Marius Topin's L'homme au masque de fer (1870) under the title The Man in the Iron Mask. In 1872 he was transferred to Berlin, where he wrote Berlin under the New Empire (1879).

This little book scarcely needs a preface, as it speaks sufficiently for itself  . Neither pains nor expense have been spared to render it both accurate and complete, and the large number of authentic engravings with which it is illustrated will conduce, it is hoped, to its value. It describes with details some of the big names estates. Information about early problems with the bottles and then great details on how champagne is, I really mean WAS, fabricated was interesting to read. Modern production has more automated steps because the number of bottles produced has gone up like crazy.
I would think that this book is especially interesting for someone planning a visit of the area.
I do not regret the purchase of it

Pretty good book containing some pretty good facts and information on both Champagne and Sparkling wines.
Very helpful for me to understand alittle more about these two items.

looks like it was translated through a really bad translating program. Really, genuinely unreadable due to the grammar and mixed up layout

I'm not a real champagne buff so I didn't really read this whole book but it contains a lot of information.

Not What I expected. If you want to know more information than anyone needs about European wine cellars, than this is your book. Otherwise, move on to something else.
