Like the first reviewer, I hated this book.

The synopsis: At the beginning of the book, we meet Jennifer Lynn Brewster, the "heroine" of the book, a pastor's daughter-or so she thinks-decides to take revenge on the man she blames for her mother's death. As part of her revenge plan, Jennifer changes her appearance to look sultrier. She then travels to San Francisco, she meets the hero of the book Nicholas Oglesby, a painter and the only likeable male in the book, when Nicholas agrees to draw a painting of Jennifer and falls in love with her.

While in San Francisco, Jennifer meets the man she blames for her mother's death;. That man, Robert Harbison, we later find out, is her uncle, had sex with Jennifer's mother amd is the biological brother of her real father, who Jennifer believes is her uncle, and they are both brothers of the man she believes is her father. But wait, it gets worse! Jennifer eventually is raped by her uncle-although the way it's written by Mrs. Edwards, Jennifer also feels sexual pleasure during this act-her descriptions, not mine-who then leaves Jennifer to be raped by another man! Jennifer also is upset with her uncle-who is really her father, because he has a relationship with a black woman.

Even though Jennifer and Nicholas eventually get married and have children, I find the whole situation in this book extremely distasteful. The whole book from about a quarter in is mired in a sleaziness that doesn't go away. This book made me feel dirty reading it. Cassie Edwards is an accomplished author-New York Times bestseller-and has written many great books. This book-originally published by Zebra Books in June 1982-is not one of them.

This book was distasteful. The heroine, for a woman who claims to be totally in love with the hero, she had no problem lusting after and eventually sleeping with her uncle! This book threw me off from Cassie Edward's books completely. Personally, I don't know how Ms. Edwards expected her readers to read about an incestuous heroine and like both her (the heroine) and the book at the same time. This book should have never been published, especially in the romance genre. If I could give it less than one star I would.
