Results from Google Books. An wonderful collection of pets from the region where coal was once king. The "anthracite region" covers a lot of territory through parts of seven counties in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania, but the experience of working the deep mines and living in company towns was much the same everywhere. Dirty, dangerous, stifling and dehumanizing. Being fromt he area I could picture the actual places as i read each poem, but the descriptions are such that anyone can see, in their mind's eye, the bleak and touching places told about here.
